It had been a few months of teaching before she had that itch. Out of all of the teachers she was probably the most erratic. When she just felt the need she would take off for weeks of a month just to be one with nature. It was the best feeling to be out of the constraints of society and have her bare feet in the soil. In the real world she always had to wear shoes and it was a major bummer. Grabbing her duffel bag she headed out of her room and down the stairs of the mansion. Several of her students hugged her and told her to come back soon. [break][break]
Olivia was a rolling stone and she just felt suffocated lately. Heading out into the woods she kicked off the sneakers she wore and took off running. The bag strapped to her back she used her hands and brought them in a upwards motion. At the same time she pushed of the ground and jumped onto a rocky pedestal that came from the ground. In a path weaving through the trails she jumped between each boulder in a game of leap frog. Eventually after a bit of travel time she found herself up in upstate Michigan. [break][break]
While she was out foraging for edible plants and berries she found herself at the side of a highway. In the middle of the road was a dead mother Elk that seemed to have been recently hit. A frown tugged at her lips as she noticed the calf that was standing there nudging the mom who wouldn't get up again. Setting her basket down she climbed over the rail and slowly approached the young animal. "shh... its okay sweetie... I'm not gonna hurt you..." A soft tone came from her lips but her head jerked to the side when she heard a engine revving and rounding the curve. It was going fairly fast and out of instinct her arm came up to shield her. Boulders off the side of the road flew and land infront of her and the young elk fawn.[break][break]
There was a loud crunch of metal and the sound of the horn going off. "Oh dear." she spoke and she brushed off sand from the boulders. Waving her hands the boulders started to peel away and return to the edge of the road. The car was smoking and the person inside was slumped on the wheel. Flames flickered and she quickly darted to the drivers door. "Please dont be dead mister..." Olivia spoke as she pulled the door open. Unbuckling his seat belt she pulled him from the car and as the flames got bigger she started to panic. Looking at a large boulder she quickly flicked it towards the car and knocked it over the rail and cliffside. After loud crashes there was a boom which knocked her on her ass neck to the man.[break][break]
For the last few days Vince had been on watch for something new. Something...exciting. Sure, most of the time he was a beast of habit, but when he saw a pretty car that owner should've known better than to taunt him. And here he was racing down the highway like a bat out of hell. His adrenaline pumping hot and heavy through his veins.
However, the southern boy in him nagged at the back of his mind. Saying it wasn't right to steal. Your mama raised you better than this. She definitely had raised him to be better than a scumbag, but some days... the pull was too hard to resist.
That's when he heard his phone ringing in the cupholder, yelling at him that his mother was calling. 'Speak of the devil and the Devil shall arrive.' He thought picking it up. "Hey there Mama. How are ya?" His southern accent thick as he kept calm. If she picked up even a single hint of weariness he'd be done for.
"Vince Grayson Beasley, I have been calling your phone for days. Where in the world have you been?" She asked, irritation evident. "I got a job Ma. I can't always pick up the phone, or call back. They got me workin' all hours of the day and night."
"The least you could do is send a text." He couldn't help but to chuckle. "Since when do you text?"
"I may not text, but I got eyes. I can read." She retorted. "That you can ma. So, what's the topic of conversation today?" He asked a smile on his face. "Why haven't you brought home a nice girl yet?"
"MA! I told you...I don't exactly have time for that right now." His mind drifted to the last girlfriend he had and the reason they had broken up. She had taken advantage of how dependent he was on her love. She had twisted it into something unrecognizable. He just hadn't told his mom everything about it. She didn't even know about his mutation.
"I want me some grandbabies, and soon." Vince groaned in annoyance, but knew his mom was getting older. "Yeah, well when I find the one I'll make sure she has a ring to match." He said as he sped around a turn. He hadn't even noticed the woman and elk until it was too late. The car made a head on collision with two large boulders, rocking them slightly with the force.
For a moment everything was black, and there was a loud blaring sound. His skin felt harder, his muscles tight, and his bones dense. He hoped his power activated enough in time to keep any serious damage away. But he wasn't sure as his other senses didn't pick up on anything.
Opening his eyes some it surprised him to find a beauty like her helping him. Sunkissed skin, luscious brunette locks and steady brown eyes. Maybe he was in heaven? With the way the sunlight was portraying her, she definitely could've been an angel.
He hadn't heard the explosion, or the boulder knocking the car off in the first place. He was so mind boggled that this woman had helped him. Sitting up took some effort as his chest, neck and back protested against the movement. He could see some cuts, a few bruises, but no serious damage until he was ramrod straight and bent over holding his side.
"Shit..." His hand went to it only to be covered in hot blood. It wasn't a lot, but it had him worried. Looking around his surroundings came back into view. His green eyes searched and searched but all he saw was the woman, and the elks. There were no boulders...no car...
Panic settled in like ice in his veins. He only hoped his adaptation power would kick in and start clotting the wound. Looking back at the woman, he looked her over. She didn't look hurt, just startled. "You okay darlin?" His southern accent was light as he grunted. "You ain't hurt?" He'd ask about everything else later.

The guy seemed to be out cold right at the moment and she drug him to the shoulder of the road. Not many people came on this curvy road and it made a nice peaceful setting. Olivia would spend days alone and even months just with nature where she felt the best. When the guy started to come to she knelt beside him with a frown on her lips. At least he wasn't dead but he was banged up pretty decent. Her eyes trailed over visible tattoos and to the wound on his side. "Sir, Take it easy. You were just in a wreck and might be injured." In her voice was concern for his safety. His eyes moved around and she knew he was trying to piece together what happened. [break][break]
Pulling out a scarf from her bag she pressed it to his side to help stop the blood loss. "I'm okay...more worried about you right now." Every word was soft spoken as she stood and took his arm and helped him up. "Look I stay near here and we can get you something for pain and call for help." Moving to the side of the road and grabbed the rope she had attached to the baby elks neck. This wasn't the only orphaned animal she had brought home and wouldn't be the last. Now she was bringing a different kind of stray and hoped it wouldn't bite her in the rear.[break][break]
Slowly she moved down the path with a elk on one side and injured person on the other. Once they made it to the clearing in the woods she secured the elk in a small pen and helped the man inside. Flipping a light switch the dim lights came on in light the cozy little cabin up. She had installed Solar panels a few days ago so the perks of power had been nice. "Make yourself comfortable on the couch. I'll be right back." She spoke as she stepped into her bedroom which was divided from the living room by a curtain of flowery vines. Grabbing her first aid kit and a joint from her table she moved into the Living room. "This should help with pain, all natural and much better for ya than anything a doc will give"[break][break]
Handing him a lighter and a joint she smiled and went straight to opening the first aid kit. Her eyes never really met his because she was just two shy of a person for that. Her fingers moved towards the wound on his side and went to cleaning it. As the blood started to clear she realized the healing had started. It was no longer bleeding but still a decent closed at the bottom gash. "Your a fast healer." She mentioned as she ran the wipes over the wound and went to bandaging it. Most of the minor scratches she had seen before looked basically fully healed. Her eyes darted to his for the first time. "Are you like.. a mutant?"
Vince didn’t complain when she put pressure on his wound, or helped him up. It stung like a bitch, but he was happy for the help. “Thanks, I appreciate your help.” He spoke just as softly, but seeing as she was concerned he let her take the lead. For a big guy like him, he didn’t exactly take to strangers at first. Especially pretty women. He was a bit of a mess when it came to them really.
His jacket and rank within the Fool’s had gotten him plenty of chances to find a nice girl. But most of the girls he found didn’t like staying around for long. He had to adjust to that as the years had come and gone. He didn’t do one night stands. Why do it at all if it meant nothing the next morning? It just made no real sense to him at all.
He watched as she grabbed hold of a rope. His eyes travelled its length to the baby Elk that still worried over its mother’s dead body. ‘Poor thing… no one deserves to lose a parent.’ Grass crunched under his feet as they walked up a slightly used path. It would’ve been hard to see if he wasn’t paying attention.
His muscles protested against him moving so much. He looked to the scarf that was soaked with his blood and pulled it away to find it was healing. A sigh left his lips as he watched her put the little elk into a pen. Seemed like she did it often, otherwise, why have a pen at all. It wouldn’t have held chickens, maybe a horse, or maybe a cow.
He found himself wondering if she liked all animals, or just certain types. ‘Why the hell do I wanna think of things like that? Ma really got to me I guess… that or maybe a concussion.’ Shaking his head he realized they had moved into the carved out rock home. He looked around at everything. It was definitely earthy, and felt tranquil as he slowly made his way to the couch and laid down, taking off his shoes as a sign of respect.
It was comfortable enough, but he loved extremely soft things. He needed to add another layer of foam to his mattress just to make it close to right. Laying there he propped up his head with a pillow and a hand, the other he let hang off the side to graze the floor some.
When the girl came back in he was more than happy to take the joint and light it up. Now that’s exactly what the doctor called for. Taking a deep breath he smiled and let the thick smoke just drift from his mouth before blowing it out. He could feel the hum of the drugs already working into his system, relaxing his tense muscles, the pain seeming to ebb away to nothing but a memory. “That really hits the spot.” He voiced. Gratitude in every word.
He felt the cold wipes on his skin and jumped slightly. He was gonna have to explain himself to her. ‘This is gonna go over well.’ He watched her as she made the comment about him being a fast healer. He watched as her eyes fell over the other parts of him that had cuts to find them scarred over pretty well. Her eyes looking into his told him everything. She was suspicious, and she was gonna ask.
Taking another hit off the joint he blew it out slowly. “Yeah,” he started, “I’m a mutant.” He looked in her eyes for a moment before she eventually moved them away. ‘Damn she’s cute.’ “I shouldn’t be taking up too much of your time ma’am. Once I’m done healing I can hightail it back to Detroit.” He said and placed the joint in his mouth as his hands searched for his phone.
Then he remembered… He dropped it in the car. An exaggerated sigh left his lips. His mom was gonna be pissed at him, not to mention scared to death. He’d have to think of something to tell her other than he almost died from a car wreck. “Damn it… my phone was in the car… you wouldn’t happen to know what exactly happened would you?” He eyed her suspiciously. He had a nagging at the back of his brain. “Because there were two boulders and my car. Then there were none when I gained back my consciousness.”

So he indeed was a mutant and obviously he had some sort of fast healing that was working well on the smaller scrapes. She didn't really trust volunteering the info of being a mutant herself because in the past she just had so many bad reactions. Before she ended up at the school her life was one crappy orphanage after the other. When she was done cleaning wounds he asked her about what happened and she froze for a few moments. So he did see the boulders in the road before he passed out and she looked over at him for a moment. "Well I was in the road trying to save the baby elk since its mom got hit. You came around the corner so fast and it was really just a accident." Olivia spoke as she gesture with her hands and a few pebbles off the floor started to float in circles above her open palms. [break][break]
She watched the stones and with her other hand she opened the roof of the large rock of a home to show the sun set in a sky light of sorts. "Obviously i'm a mutant. Sorry about your car but i didn't really want to be a hood ornament and it was on fire once i pulled you out. So I um kinda used the boulders to push it over the cliff side. You can see the smoke still in the sky through the window....Sorry..." There was a frown on her lips as she grabbed a satellite phone from her end table and handed it to him. "You don't have to hang around if ya don't want... I can pay for the car..." Her tone was soft as she rose from the couch and went to the kitchen. There she went to fixing a couple of bottles and other various dishes of food for the injured and orphaned wildlife around her.[break][break]
"You should rest. I gotta go feed the animals but i can drive you to town if ya want when im done." With those words she started to pushed a small cart of bowls and bottles out the door. Around back of the house there was another structure formed of dirt and rocks with cages of various wildlife. Putting the bowls out and feeding most of the critters she finally made it back to the elk calf. Grabbing the bottle she slid through the rails of the corral and carefully tried to get him to accept it which proved not successful...."Come on sweetie you gotta take this bottle. IT will make you get stronger and grow.." Olivia had a softness to her tone as she gently touched the young animals face. It missed its mother and she knew that. [break][break]
After a few more failed attempts she called it quits and heading back inside. The man was still on the couch so she sat towards the end and tired not to disturb him as she lit up the joint. Taking in a deep breath the smoke filled her lungs and as her head leaned back she watched it escape. Her hand went to rub the back of her neck which had been killing her for days now. Honestly she wasn't sure how she was gonna get that calf to eat but if she didn't she would have to run a IV which was always annoying.
Puffing on the joint he listened and watched as the roof opened. ‘Well, that’s definitely flashier than mine.’ He hadn’t ever really been jealous of someone with flashier powers than his own, but it kind of stung. If only for the fact his parents would think he was trying to disappoint them by claiming to be a mutant without any proof. “It wasn’t your fault.” He said nonchalantly. Seeing the smoke he believed her story. Really it was the only thing that could explain it.
He didn’t mean to be so distracted while driving, he would’ve stopped as soon as he had seen them. But with his mother in his ear he hadn’t been on the here and now. “I’m still mighty thankful. No need to worry about paying for the car. I’ve got more where that comes from.” He said as she handed him the satellite phone. Looking at it he was tempted to type in the numbers to Johnny’s phone, but he doubted he’d pick up.
Watching her make bottles and food he decided against calling for the moment. The little bit of adrenaline and weed working through his system was already wearing thin. Taking another hit from the joint he watched as his hand hardened to that of a rock and he put out the butt of the joint on his hand. It wouldn’t leave that bad of a mark.
He watched as she left and decided to lay back on the couch again. An arm covered his eyes as they closed. He’d jut nap for a bit, then when he got his stamina back he could walk back to Detroit. It might take a while, but he didn’t want her doing more for him than she needed to. He could tell she felt awful about what happened, and so did he. He almost ran into an innocent woman and an animal. If his sister knew she’d kill him right on the spot. She always had a soft spot for animals, it was one reason why she nicknamed him Beasty besides their last name almost sounding the same.
He didn’t know how long he was zoned out for until he heard feet padding across the floor. Moving his feet he made room for her as she sat down and lit up another joint. Moving his arm up some he noticed her rubbing her neck. Eyebrow quirked a little as he sat up. “Guessing the little one gave you trouble out there?” He asked and motioned for her to turn. Gently his calloused fingers went to her neck, applying pressure to the knots trying to work them out. “I’m Vince Beasley. I’m sorry for almost hitting you.” His voice was laced with sincerity as he moved his fingers in circles.
