Lana moved through the crowded time square. New York city, the big apple.... She had heard stories of this place since she was a little girl. America was supposed to be the land of opportunity. It was just as bad as anywhere else. Lana lived dowtown in a warehouse loft. It was industrial looking and kind of cold, but it suited her.
Ever since she came to America she had tried to fit in. To blend into the seems of what society looked like. She was just another mutant. Another piece of the problem in the eyes of the normals. Not that Lana ever held a grudge. Small minded people have small minded ideals. Lana kept her abilities to herself and was simply another immigrant in New York trying to make a life for themselves.
It was almost so cliche that you could put it on a post card. Lana didn't want to be just another cliche. she didn't want to blend in, she wanted to be someone. Her life in Romania was anything short of spectacular and she had been giving these abilities. It seemed like a gift, though the world saw it as a curse. Moving into a bar on the corner she shifted her feet as the door settled behind her. When the door closed and blocked the bright afternoon sun, she was left standing in a dark dingy room.
This was the kind of bar that health inspectors hated going too, because they'd have to scramble around in the trunks of their cars for extra 'violations tickets' because the health code was so far below acceptable it was almost laughable. Some grungy dirty old man with a hand towl stood behind the bar. He eyed her up as she came in and rolled her eyes at him and sat at the far corner of the bar.
She was meeting someone here. Lana Podsednick, was trying her best to just blend in and keep her head down. Though she got into some financial trouble when her father got sick. Roman Podsednick. Kindest man she ever knew. He was dying in a hospital bed in the Bronx. He was the last family Lana had left. She looked around the bar nervously. She was meeting someone to fence some jewels she had stolen.
Lana was no criminal mastermind. Not really, but she happened to be in the right place at the right time. And with her god given mutant abilities well..... Let's just say jewel thieve wasn't a full time gig. She was desperate to get money to pay for her father's operation though. Her leg became jittery under the bar. As she looked around, she realized she had no idea what this guy looked like.
He was going to be wearing a leather jacket that's all Lana was told. She was put in contact with this guy through another shady character name Javier. William Pope was to meet her at the bar to take a look at the jewels. The thing about jewels was.... You had to be patient.
If a big enough rock was stolen then it has to be cut up before you can find a buyer. Either that or risk your life to a maxium security prison. That's why a good money launderer is your best friend. It's basically a phone book for criminals. Javier was that phonebook and he put her in touch with The Fools.
They were new in town but making a name for themselves already. Not to mention word gets around and the fools had a few members on the FBI's most wanted list. Lana didn't know what she was getting herself into. Or how her life was about to change.

Hear my shapeless songs i'm singing and painting this morning light, bit by bit, hoping I'd get to that summer sky. I'm feeling alright I can see your palm reaching out to mine. ---In the orange sky, there is glowing fireflies.
Sometimes in life you just found yourself up the creek with no hope of a paddle to get you back. It had been days? no maybe it was weeks since Nicole didn't come home from her doctors appointment. At first he figured she was out with Lulu but that wasn't the case and he had been busy breaking bones of every scum bag in buffalo to get some info. Though nothing of use actually came to it and the fools had been helping him whenever they weren't busy with the club. As time went by everyone but William had started to accept the fact that Nicole was gone.
With a cold trail and with no new leads it left William in a bad place. Buster had Sophia and even with that being his closest friends. The man made of iron was pushing everyone out. Most nights were spent in drunken and drugged stupors that were nothing but black outs. The harsh sound of his phone ringing was the wake up call he didn't ask for. Hanging off the side of his bed he grabbed the phone and answered. Orders for johnny to meet some broad that was trying get rid of some jewels.
Throwing the phone onto the bed he rolled out of it and within the hour he was some semblance of ready. The meet was some shit hole bar in a nook under a sewer cover but still he walked in the place. There were sunglasses on the cold features of his face to hide the hangover. The man behind the bar pointed him to the person he was meeting and he tapped on the girls shoulder. If he wasn't in a hurry to leave then he would've noticed that she was a hot. With a quick head gesture he told her to follow him to the back booth where he slid in. Staring at her through shaded frames he watched her pull out the velvet bag of gems.
Pulling the sunglasses from his face there were visible healing bruises around the right of his face. Bar fights and street fights had been part of his nightly pity party and his goal was self destruction. Grabbing a sleeve of tools from his inner pocket he carefully examined the jewels and they were very high quality. At least 3 million in diamonds and other assorted precious gems but william wasn't in the fair buyers business. Some of them were big and would need to be cut and that would take time to move. "Poor quality. 10 grand for them." He spoke as he looked up from the rocks and actually looked at the girl.
She was a looker with bright blonde hair and soft features. It was obvious that this wasn't her normal gig and she wanted to be done with it. "So whats it gonna be shorty? Maybe we can negotiate a better price over some drinks." William spoke as he slid the jewels back into the bag and slid out of the booth. Putting them in his pocket he took her hand before giving her a chance to speak. All he wanted was a drink to find some distraction from the brunette that was in his mind day in and out.
Lana wasn't exactly sure what to expect. She wasn't a hardened criminal. She was sweet and shy in her own way, but you would never know that by talking to her. She was fiesty and fiery and she didn't stand for people giving her shit. Sweet and shy went right out the window when she thought you were trying to play her.
She turned her attention to the bar when she noticed the bartender pointing in her direction. The man with the sunglasses and the bruise on his cheek nodded and started to walk over. She wondered if the sunglasses were to hide the bruise. If so they did a poor job at consealing the fact that he had gotten his ass kicked.
"So, you are man I am supposed to meet?" Her question was only met with grunt and a disinterested nod. While he examined her jewels, Lana shifted nervously. She had never done this sort of thing before. For some reason she felt as if everyone in the room was looking at her, and they knew what she had was stolen. "Well?" She asked impatiently.
William gruffly said that it was shit quality and he wasn't paying more than 10 grand. "10 grand?!? You're kidding me?!?!?" She said, suddenly all too aware that more people actually were looking at her now. She lowered her voice. "Do you know what I had to do to...." Her voice trailed off. Lana didn't even want to think about what she had to do.... She left that guard bleeding from a accidental injury.
She lost her temper. It happened more than she liked to admit, but she lost her temper with the old man and sailed a rock at his head... Left him bleeding, unconsious; hopefully alive. Lana bit her lower lip as she watched him tuck the jewels in his pocket. She was about to protest when he called her shorty. 'What is shorty?' She thought curiously.
She didn't have much time to ponder it as he was taking her hand and asking her for a drink. Suddenly her face was all sunny smiles. She knew she could jack up the price if she laid on the charm. Gave this looser false hopes that he might actually get a little piece. "Sure, but not here... We go to Ramonos. Is much nicer. I don't have to worry about being murdered in the bathroom."
She allowed his hand to guide hers out of the booth, until she moved in front of him... She walked with purpose and gave him a good view of her rear end as she moved not so subtly in front of him. "One drink, you're buying." She didn't even know this guys name. It didn't matter.
As long as she could get a better price for the jewels. It wasn't like she had a ton of options she'd have to deal with this guy and his lowball ass price, so she figured she might as well try and make it something she could live with.
