I feel like giving up
It isn’t in my blood
Everything Katherine had felt for Derek came full frontal when he kissed her lips. Her body tingled from head to toe as she wrapped herself in his warmth and passion. She had never felt such bliss before in her life. Gasps, moans and sighs of pleasure left her as her body writhed under his gentle touch. This wasn’t just two people lusting, this was about two souls connecting. Thriving on one another to live and hope. Her fingers digging into those hard muscles in his back and arms, marking him as hers.
As the passion reached its climax Katherine couldn’t keep the smile from her lips. She never wanted to move from where she laid until he pulled her on top. A soft giggle left her lips as he kissed and she couldn’t help the laugh when he hit a tickle spot right at the crook of her neck. Hearing his confession she couldn’t keep the tint of pink from her cheeks as she gave a genuine whole-hearted smile. “I love you too Derek.”
Her heart pounded in her chest as it reverberated with her purring. “Well, you’re the first to ever hear it. There’s something special about you Thunder.” She laid her head on his shoulder ready to fall asleep when he moved out from under her. She groaned wanting him to come back and keep her comfortable. A little smirk worked its way across her face as he kissed her. when he asked if she wanted anything it became devious. “Mm, maybe-” Her sentence was stopped as she saw the fire hit Derek.
Her heart skipped a beat seeing him being flung by the fire. She had no idea what to do at that moment except to wrap the thin sheet around herself like a toga. Her claws slid out as she stepped off the bed. However, her body shook with fever as she fell to her knees. Her face flushed with heat. With all the activity and no sleep or food her body was starting to revolt. “I’d take offense to that if I gave a shit what you thought of me.” She snapped back at Andi. Her breathing became labored as she leaned on her hands, her arms shaking.
Andi was tired, she’d been driving in the worn seats of a stolen car for two nights straight in hopes to put some distance between the mundane town she pillaged for adventure and herself. The cabin was a welcome memory that forced a new weight onto the gas pedal of the car as the begged the distance to close in. The bike outside was a uniquely worrying touch to the untouched landscape, having it intact and obviously uninhabited for some time was a relief but the slightly ajar door drew a feeling of concern to her mind. God knows the last thing she needed was a robbery on a childhood haven she adored.
Andi parked the car far enough to draw less attention and crept into the old, dusty cabin with intent. She half expected to see a gang of rowdy teenagers clutched in empty beer bottles and reckless breaking and entering but instead the nostalgia slammed into her chest like a hurricane. The shock written on her soft features were painfully obvious, a gulp and three intense inhales later she finally mustered up the courage to reunite with a man she hadn’t seen in years with the façade of indifference.
For a few seconds she contemplated engulfing the bulky mass of muscle and wit into a bone crushing hug but the anger of being left to her own will drove the fiery ball of energy from her palm. The impact Derek sprawled away from the door he stood in, she forced the heat from the flames so she didn’t leave his skin scorched in burns that would follow him as long as he dared to live.
“Andi? Is that how you greet your big brother?”, she laughed incredulously and stepped closer with a menacing glare. Fire danced on the tips of her fingers as she stared down at the family she lost all those years ago. “You mean the big brother who left me on my own. I needed a place to stay, you could have been a robber for all I knew, it was only self defense”, she stopped just by the door he stood in to see the barely covered figure of stranger she didn’t know. “Bring your bimbos here often big brother?”.
Andi rolled her green gaze at the snark slipping off the stranger’s tone, she hardly thought the bulky big brother would settle down with anyone. She backed out of the way as Derek darted past her to grasp onto katherine’s shoulders, he must really like the girl. Either way, Andi didn’t give a shit.
“Oh sweetheart, you’re really not in a position to sass me”, her eye closed in a brief wink as she leaned against the doorway and greeted her brother’s angry glare with her arms folded over her chest and fire licking over her tanned skin.
Derek didn’t remember this almost assaulting demeanor dancing in his sister’s gaze but he didn’t blame her either. The only thoughts echoing in his mind louder than pure shock was Katherine’s honest admittance about her feelings. he was sure Andi couldn’t kill someone in cold blood but with the new dangerous demeanor about her he didn’t want to take any chances. He pushed to his feet and shoved past his sister towards Katherine. Besides, Katherine wasn’t entirely the type of woman scared to pull out her claws and he feared the lot of them together was begging for a chaotic eruption that’ll only end up burning his patience to useless embers of irritation.
Derek crouched down by Katherine’s side, reached out and held his grey t-shirt in his palms with a gentle smile at the woman he adored before sparing his fiery tempered sister a dangerous glare. He didn’t deny his guilty acts in leaving her to fend for herself but he’d protect Katherine against an onslaught she didn’t deserve. The anger portrayed by Andi was his to bear and his alone.
“Hey, let’s get you something to eat alright?”, he felt guilty for not thinking of it earlier. They’d been on the road for long with nothing more than a sip of water here and there, his own stomach was begging for something worth tasting. Derek gave her a moment to redress as he stepped up to his sister with a strict glare, “you’re welcome to burn the living hell out of me but if you so much as touch her I swear to God-“, it was hard to imagine his own powers digging into her skin but he was desperate to keep Katherine safe. He promised her the taste of home in hopes of finding something similar in her presence, he wouldn’t let anyone threaten her.
"You'll do what Derek, shove me out of a tree", despite the anger boiling in his veins both siblings fell into a charming chuckle.
“You good?”, he turned back to the beautiful visage of a woman he only dreamt of until now before reaching out to steady her with one arm slung around her waist. Derek lead her slender form to the kitchen and the grim remembrance hit him like a wave of his sister’s red hot flames. He dug through the wooden cabinets to no avail before tossing his cellphone to Andi with a stiff glance.
“How about you call for some pizza? Do something useful”, he leaned in front of Katherine with a guilty stiffness to his gaze. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know this would happen. I’ll fix it, I swear”, he grasped her small palms in his own hoping she wasn’t regretful for delving into an adventure with a man who had more demons on his trail than hairs on his head.

I feel like giving up
It isn’t in my blood
Although her eyes weren’t as focused she glared up at Andi for a moment and hissed. Her claws protruding over her normal ones. Her canines extending some. Her animal instinct coming forth from the stress her body was under. That is until Derek came in, the concern in his eyes as he got closer calmed her a little. “I’ll sass anyone from here to pluto honey.” Her claws retracted Katherine took his shirt and smiled pulling it over her head.
“Food sounds really good right now.” Her stomach was really starting to hurt, like it was already eating itself. She watched as he got up and blocked Andi’s view from her. She heard the threat and a weak smile found its way to her lips. She slipped on her shorts and used the bed to stand. “Yeah, I’m good.” She took his hand walked with him towards the kitchen. But just that took a lot out of her. Her body felt so hot, she was sweating bullets, but she shivered feeling so cold at the same time.
She watched as Derek looked through the cabinets to bring forth no food. Katherine laid her head against the cool surface of the wooden kitchen table. It made her feel just that much better. Her head rolled to the side as he took her hands in his. The pad of her thumb ran over his knuckles and she smiled. “It’s okay. You don’t need to apologize so much.” She kissed his forehead before giving a light headbutt. All she wanted to do right now was cuddle in bed after having something put in her stomach. But she had a feeling this was a little more than just a simple case of food and sleep deprivation.
Andi felt a sense of happiness brew in her mind, Derek looked genuinely happy and relaxed around this girl, somehow it didn’t look like he carried the weight of the world over his shoulders anymore. Still, she covered her complex thoughts up with a stern gaze and an almost everlasting grin reeking of mischief and playful intent.
At least Katherine wasn’t a bore like that old bitch he dated when they were still digging through the world in their teens, Andi wouldn’t voice the compliment aloud but she thought it nonetheless. She hated the underlying confrontation between her and a brother she’d lay her life down for, still, she wasn’t looking to make amends any time soon.
She caught the cellphone with ease and pulled it to her chest with a pertinent glare, “How about I drive out and get some. This place is getting too crowded for me, be back in while. Try not to sex up the place too much alright?”, she focused a playful wink at Katherine before dropping the phone on a dusty table on the way out.
“Have fun!”, she yelled the words with a wave hanging over her shoulders as she slipped back outside. Andi contemplated leaving with no intention of coming back but as much as it hurt seeing her brother reaching out to a stranger and not once bothering to try and find her it hurt even more to leave him behind without spending at least one night engraving him into her memory. For one night she’d appreciate the idea of family for the first time since she truly lost hers.
Derek glanced over at the layer of sweat touching her skin and he felt the intense worry bubbling through the depths of his mind and burrowing too a vicious headache thudding behind his lids. Something was wrong, he could see it on the shivers in her shoulders and the pale touch to her cheeks, for years he’d taken care of himself with no true regard for his own health but with Katherine looking like she was about to pass out he was kind of panicking. Perhaps the worry was intensified by the long time he spent trying to shove his feelings into a box, and now, with the only woman who ever dared challenge him and dug the feelings of affection from an abyss he forgot of he couldn’t think of anything but her wellbeing.
“If you’re not better by morning I’m taking you to a hospital”, he smiled at the touch of her soft lips to his forehead. It was odd feeling so utterly happy in the embrace of a world with nothing but stressors begging his downfall.
“I’m going to kill her”, the gruff tone of his voice was a light whisper with a playful chuckle drifting through his lips as he watched his sister disappear with the almost iconic snark balanced on every word she uttered. “Since I can’t actually feed you anything right now,”, a playful grin slipped over his features as he glanced through the dirty window at the water moving under the sway of the wind, “apart from boiled fishes”, lightning danced to life over his fingertips as he turned his strong jaw back to face her.
“I think you ought to get back in bed”, Derek stepped around the counter and slipped one arm under her knees while the other gently pulled her shoulders to his chest. “Why is I’m always saving your ass? Aren’t cats supposed to be a little more graceful”, she was light in his arms as he followed a familiar set of steps into the room. Most of the dust they upturned in their excitement already drew steady on the floor around the bed, Derek glanced down at the beauty balanced in his arms as he set her down slowly.
“What’s really going on sweetheart? I’ve been starving and exhausted before and this, this isn’t it. You look like hell and I can’t fix something if I don’t know what’s wrong”, Derek wasn’t sure if she caught something on the way here or even before their reunion before their abrupt road trip. He was surprised at his deep infatuation with Katherine, he knew her for such a short time and still, he’d lay down his life for hers if it means she could spend another second basking in the touch of life. The last thing he wanted was for her to be sick or hurt.

It isn’t in my blood
“I don’t need to go to the hospital. I’ll be fine.” Katherine weakly fought. She couldn’t even be convincing to herself at this moment. She didn’t feel right, but she had no energy to think of any witty comebacks. She was starting to feel achy and that’s when she remembered this feeling before. A deep down aching of her body, the stomach pains, she was in heat...and they just had sex. She remembered mwhat the doctors had told her about her mutation, and she knew with it being so soon...taking a deep breath she pushed the thought away. They didn’t need that happening right now, she just hoped it wouldn’t take hold.
Her brow had furrowed in both fear and disappointment forgetting something like this would happen since it’s spring time. It always happened around the same time every year. But Derek had all her attention. She didn’t care at first, but now her heart clenched with a panic she never thought she’d have ever. How was she supposed to explain to him that she could…
Turning her chocolate eyes to him Katherine watched the lightning dancing on his fingers. “No you won't. She's your sister.” She muttered with a giggle. She watched them for a moment longer and chuckled at his words. But boiled fish didn't sound the most appetizing. “Bed would probably be best.” She mused.
She cuddled into Derek's chest as he picked her up into his strong arms. Feeling the muscles flex against her own body she couldn't help but to get hot and bothered again. She wanted more of what they did earlier. But she knew the consequences of that and it scared her to no end. Even if they were able to get away or figure out someway to get them off their tail Katherine was scared of being a mom. With how her interests dwindled so quickly with things she didn't want it happening with Derek or worse a child.
Being laid in the bed Katherine was quick to snatch his arm and pull him down with her for cuddles. She was a non-stop purring machine at this point but it stopped when he asked her what was wrong. For a while she was quiet. She didn't know how to explain it. “I'm…… in heat. Like cats get when they're...ready to have kittens.” She couldn't look at Derek as she admitted it. She wasn't going to be a good liar like this and even on her best day he could still find the snag in them.
Derek was concerned over the weakness lacing her tone as she fought the idea of seeking professional medical help but he’d respect her decision, if it got worse though he was almost certain he could drag her ass there even if she tried resisting. Either way he was eager to get her back on her feet. He pouted almost theatrically when she didn’t take him up on the offer of a fishy dinner, still, the moment of humor didn’t take too long to dissipate.
She felt almost weightless in his arms, but that wasn’t something new entirely. Katherine had a slim, utterly beautiful figure and he wasn’t exactly known for being a weak man so he didn’t put too much worrisome thoughts into the ease of carrying her to the bed. His lips tilted into a grin feeling her decisive tug down onto the covers, he didn’t deny the request and stretched out his arm to pull her into his chest. Derek found her absolutely stunning wrapped in the length of his shirt, he couldn’t help but be enthralled by her in every possible way.
There was a dull quiet that followed his question, it laced his mind in deep worry until she explained the root of the flu like manifestations. His eyes grew wide and a pallor shifted over his face. He was so eager to finally be with her he hadn’t even thought about precautions and she was on heat. For a while he had an absolutely amazing father who eventually turned out to be a dick. He wasn’t sure if he could even raise himself all over again, what about a child? Besides, he still had some dumb ass sending goons his way every few months in hopes to recover the millions stolen by his father.
He wasn’t sure what to say at first so he dived right into a stiff silence, he was silently scolding himself for not being more careful but he also didn’t want to wear a frown in fear Katherine might think he’d abandon her in the face of a possible consequence for their actions knowing he’d never do that. He didn’t drag her along to abandon her at the first sight of trouble, although he truly hoped they didn’t have to dive into this kind of thing so soon.
“Oh, uh”, the words disappeared from his mind as quickly as they manifested at the tip of his tongue, “We’ll figure it out as we go sweetheart, promise. But no more funny business until I get some condoms”, he leaned down to place a tender kiss on top of her head hoping she wouldn’t turn to see the pale worry lacing his features. Derek was genuinely fearful of being a father, not because it wasn’t something he wanted eventually but deep down he worried about turning out to be a failure to his own flesh and blood like the father who left his children scattered under the strain of his sins.

I feel like giving up
It isn’t in my blood
Katherine couldn’t help the doubts in her head as the room went silent again. But she was going to be honest with him. She wanted this more than life itself, but she didn’t want a baby so soon. Knowing how she was though, she’d probably be cursed with triplets or something. Tears built in her eyes as she only thought of the worst case scenarios. She held onto him tighter feeling the hard muscles beneath her hand.
Hearing the tone of his voice broke her heart some. How quickly those words disappeared in meaning it only made her heart race more in panic. When he moved she instinctively looked up to see the worry on his face as he kissed her head. Her body was rigid as she turned her eyes back down. “I should’ve remembered… I’m sorry…” She spoke softly as a tear fell hitting his chest.
She wasn’t ready to be a mother yet. Katherine didn’t want to be a mom really, but only because she didn’t want to be like her own. She didn’t want to be cold and distant towards him or her. And she certainly didn’t want another her running around. She wouldn’t be able to handle it. But this gave more fear to her doubts. ‘Please don’t leave me…’ She thought as more silent tears fell. Maybe she should’ve just taken those sleeping pills instead of causing more problems for Derek. It would’ve been better than tormenting him with possible children that he wouldn’t want while on the run. “I’m sorry…”
Derek wasn’t an idiot, he could feel the obvious stiffness to her figure, the signs of the heavy consequences and risks slowly milling around in her mind. He held her closer, there was nothing he could do to heal the worry in his own clouded mind so he tried to heal her first. If he couldn’t make the worry dissipate he’d do everything he can to make it numb and faint. Thunder rumbled in the sky, the lightning in his mutation manifesting the stress of the situation in heavy drums in thick grey clouds grouping together over the cabin.
He wanted to lift her chin to face him, wipe the tear that touched his chest from her cheek with the rough touch of his thumb but he feared the pale stricken worry on his face might make the situation worse. Instead he rubbed his fingers over her back in a pattern he didn’t comprehend and held her close, it wasn’t her fault and he wanted her to understand that but his mind insisted she’d blame herself in the quiet confines of her mind regardless.
“If you apologize one more time I’m dumping your ass into the lake and last time I checked cats don’t do water”, he chuckled softly with a playful tone to his voice. Derek scrunched up the courage to face her with the pallor to his skin drifting back into nonexistence.
“Katherine”, he used her voice in a deep tone laced in genuine affection and lifted her chin with the touch of his finger, “whatever happens we’ll get through it. I didn’t drag you all the way out here to leave you behind, I’m in it for the long run. So what’s it gonna be, a dip in the lake or a nice hot shower to wipe that frown off your face?”. His lips tilted into a true smile as he gestured to the dusty door leading to the rustic bathroom while the thunder overhead grew softer and softer until they ceased to drum away at the afternoon sky.
