It was already a tough day and she had just gotten to work. There was no coffee in the bullpin and Matthews ate the last doughnut before she even got here. Ramona wasn't the biggest eater of sweets, but her Friday glazed with sprinkles was god damned rituatal at this point. She had to actually restrain herself from pulling a gun on him and landing a few in his wide ass. She knew there was more than a few doughnuts there to cushion the blow. Ramona sighed and mumbled under her breath as she stepped up to her desk. She accidentally bumped her computer mouse as she sat down and her screen came to life.
Her desk was a wreck. There were scattered papers this way and that. Her wastepaper basket was stuffed to the brim with balled up pieces of paper. She had been trying to draft a speech for Captain Connors retirement. It was bullshit and politics, but that was how you got ahead here. She had to kiss the right wrinkled pompus asses on their way out the door to get a recommendation for the job she already knew she could handle.
Captain Connors had been promsing her for awhile now that he was going to let her make the leap up to a specialized division. She had been hoping to get on the homicide division, like her father was. Ramona had never met her father, but she heard stories. Killed in the line of duty. It made her proud. It was the reason she wanted to become a cop in the first place. A chance to be closer to her dad in some way; who died before she was even born. Ramona groaned and plopped down into her chair. Her eyes rolled naturally as Matthews walked past her desk. "Watcha working on there Kelevera?" He sqawked.
Ramona started to straighten her papers and try and look busier than she really was. Without her permission he picked up one of her papers on the desk and started to read it. "Ooooh scaffolding permits! Man, I hope you nab this guy. The FBI sure could use the help! He's been on their most wanted list for years." Pretensious asshole. She thought. Ramona snatched the paper back and pushed it back into her folder. To be honest she had gotten no where with her career. She was just a beat cop. Jaywalkers and litterbugs were her biggest offenders. She thought this would make her happy.
It was all a god damned joke. Ramona was amazing in the academy. The most physically fit cadet there. Her record at the gun range was the best this department had ever seen. She passed every test they laid in front of her with flying colors, but yet... Here she sat. Married to a desk with a folder full of zoning permit violations and a whole lot of what doesn't matter. Ramona felt as if her talents were squandered here. What she didn't know was they were not really talents, but genetic mutations. The firing neurons and synapsis in her brain were so lightening fast that she could not miss a target if she wanted too!
Her levels of serotonin in her brain was off the charts. Her mutant brain was flooded with serotonin which led to increased conginitive function and problem solving. She could calculated complicated angels and trickshots in her head in the blink of an eye. She always though it was just a special skill. Something to bust out at parties as a palor trick. She was genetically gifted to be a better cop than her father ever was. Mattews lingered around her desk a few moments longer. "You know, if you took your job even a little seriously, maybe people might take you seriously Kelevera. You don't have to be such a bitch all the time." Man what she wouldn't give to punch him in his fat throat. He was still wearing sprinkles on his uniform from where he ate the last sprinkled doughnut. HER DOUGHNUT! Ramona bit her tongue and eventually he got bored and wandered off shaking his head.
Ramona leaned back in her chair and covered her face with her hands. She wanted to let loose and just scream a shrill cathartic scream into the danity palms. She refrained. "Meow." She lowered her hands and looked at her computer screen. Her screen saver came on. There was sound with her screen saver. There was a picture of a cat sitting there with hipster glasses. He had on a shirt that said "Meow's it going?" She smiled a bit. Shaking her head she looked around the bullpin. "Shit!" She cried as she saw Captain Connors come in. She peeked over the edge of her desk and saw him coming right her way. "Don't see me you old fuck for the love of christ just fuck off." SHe whispered. "Ramona! My office." He said walking past her desk and not breaking his stride.
Captain Connors saw her hiding under her desk he didn't care. He stepped into his office and left the door open for her to join him. Her desk was right outside his office. Ramona's shoulders slouched and she mumbled and drug her feet as she slowly headed into the fiery pits of hell. Great. She thought. He's going to bitch at me for not having his speech ready. "Yes sir?" She asked. Her big brown eyes blinked innocently and she put on her best 'I'm trying not to strangle you and everyone else here.' smile. "Kelevra I'm reassigning you to the mutant crimes division. I think you do good work and this is my last big play as captain. You earned it."
Ramona was stunned. She didn't know what to say. "Uh... Thank you sir!" She was trying not to smile. She didn't use those muscles in her face much. It would probably hurt like a motherfucker. She cracked a small smile anyways. "Go meet Ramerez. He can give you your case files. Have you heard of The Fool's Dice Club?" Ramona really honestly hadn't heard of them. "No sir." She admitted. "Well, he will fill you in." Ramona continued to stand there just simply dumbfounded. He looked up after a moment wondering why she was still there. "That means now Kelevera." She quickly headed out and closed the door.
Today was looking better already. Rameriez had already even stopped by and placed a file on her desk. Sitting down at her desk she pulled the file closer. She looked up and saw Matthews terrorizing the local village. Jock asshole. She thought, watching him play keep away with a lab tech's ID badge. She rolled her eyes and opened the folder. "William Pope." She read quietly. Hmm... He's actually kinda cute. She thought as she began to get familiar with the file.
