Sean watched the wreckage with quiet fascination. She was like a wrecking ball. In fact, if they made it out of his alive and not in jail, he was going to start calling her just that. Wrecking ball. Seemed fitting. Sean steppe through the window in almost a daze. He stepped forward without even realizing he was doing so. All the cops were scrambling around trying to figure out just what the hell they were dealing with. Sean stepped out onto the sidewalk. More police cars came screaming onto the scene. Their sirens were an offense that clawed at his head. There was a pounding migraine pushing between his ears. It was all that damn racket.
His ribs were still aching with a cold dull throb, but they hurt a little less now. Now he could stand and breath without heaving and gasping. He still bit the corner of his lip and grimaced from moment to moment. The pain had not completely died away. Maybe it was all the adrenaline of the moment that was causing him for mostly forget about it. Sean had a one tracked mind most of the time. Most of the time he only thought about himself. Now he found himself generally worried about this girl, for whatever reason.
He watched as she calmly walked back over to him. The cops around her were frightened. Unsure. They backed out of her way and allowed her to pass. Sean was impressed. "You must've been a mother fucker at 'tag' when you were a kid." He said dropping his cigarette. Her pants caught on fire, and Sean only raised an eyebrow. It seemed like this chick just couldn't catch a break. First he hit her with a car and then he set her on fire? Sean waited for the flames to get put out and suddenly she was swinging at him. He leaned back slightly. That was all he had to do to make her miss. She was asking for a truce. He shrugged.
She had asked him what he could do. Sean cracked his knuckles. More cops spilled out of the cars all around them. The parking lot was lit up like the fourth of july. Screaming police lights sending shadows dancing and frolicking all around them. It was a god damned play ground for him. He licked his lips. There was just one problem. This girl was sort of accident prone. I should work fast then. Sean knew he was more than capable of taking out all of these cops by himself. It was just a matter of doing it. Without warning he turned into smoke. Puffs of grey black smoke hung in the air a moment and vaporized. Below his feet the sidewalk and shadow seemed to ripple. Like someone threw a stone in a lake.
Sean dove in and out of the shadow dimension, moving between points. Jumping from one shadow to the next. He used the shadow realm as a platform to reach the next shadow in the living world. One second he was bleeding into the floor the next he reappeared behind a cop and leveled them with a right hook. Each time it looked as if he was sucked into the floor and reduced to smoke. "He's gone again!" One of them shouted. A hand reached up from the shadow on the sidewalk and grabbed on of the cop's legs and pulled him through the floor. "AHHHH..." His scream was cut off as Sean pulled him into the shadow dimension and left him there.
Bleeding back wasn't a problem. He just seemed to step out of the walls. One second it was the harmless shadow of a tree on a brick wall the next a silver haired demon was stepping out of it. His body pulled from the shadowy outline and formed from nothing itself. Sean called moving through the shadow dimension to teleport "traveling." It was just the word he had always used for it. Now he was shadow traveling all over the parking lot. One second he was in the shadow realm the next he was dropping police in the shadowy backseat of their own squad cars. It only took a few moments for him to clear most of the lot.
Sean looked over and saw a red dot on Patricia's forehead. He ran and tackled her into a brick wall. It was like running into a tree. The wind drove out of him as he ran into her but he bled into the wall and pulled her into the land of shadow. The sky was grey here. Night or day, it was always grey. Life was on mute here. They came crashing through a brick wall and landed on the cold cement in utter silence. Sean scrambled to his feet.
There was the one police officer here that Sean had brought here. He was trying to understand why his voice made no sound. He was screaming and screaming, but nothing came out. He pulled his gun on Sean. Sean walked up to him and grabbed his arm. The gun went off in total silence and Sean broke his wrist. He snatched the cuffs and cuffed his arms behind his back before he dropped him off back in he real world. He left him in the quiet shade under a big oak tree.
Returning to the shadows he looked at Patricia. She wanted to know what he was capable off. This was it. He was the lord of this dimension. Not that he really knew what it was. He just knew that he moved through shadow. He had no idea what or even where this place was. This land of shadow and ash. It was cold. You could see your breath on the air. The world was gray like a black and white movie. The sky lit up with a white bright moon carried on the dark grey sky. The ground was a light shade of gray and everything washed out in muted and suffocated colors.
Technically they were still in the parking lot of the hotel. The bank happened to be just beside it. Sean walked over to Patricia and pat her on the arm. He nodded in direction of his bike. Reaching into his satchel he pulled out the keys. They had to go. They had to put some distance between them and the cops. What better way to do that then in the land of shadows. No one could see them here.
They were just two shadows walking across the parking lot in the real world with no bodies that belonged to them. But the cops were way to distracted to notice a couple of disembodied shadows running away on the ground. Sean sat on his bike and once again offered her his helmet. He even smiled at her. They could travel through the night and go back to the real world in the morning, when more shadows were availible to bleed into. She was bloodied and busted up and looked like shit, but he figured he at least owed her a ride. Mexico was a long ways away.
She watched intently. Honestly this could not be real, but not because she did not believe but because it just..nope, not real. She heard talking and screaming and she had lost track of Sean. What in the hell and then he was tackling her. She knew she was fun to play around with but they really needed more communication. For instance if he was going to just come barreling at her could he at least shout out a number.
One could be code for running monkey flip. Two could be code for hurricanara. Three for baseball slide. She'd have to ask him how agile he was but no time as she felt herself become cold. She shivered as she got to her feet. She did not like this. Well maybe that was too strong of a phrase. It was more like she was not familiar with this which only lead her mind to trust. In a world of grey and cold with Sean. Oh wait he was gone again and so was that officer.
She had to admit she was more than startled when he came back and looked at her. Even if she could say anything, WHAT would she say. When he touched her on the shoulder, she looked up enough to see him nod. He wanted her to get on that bike again? Didn't all of this start with her getting on that same bike. She was reluctant for a second but she knew she could not stay here. Yeah it had always been a bit strange from the beginning but now it was going into straight awkward.
She looked at his offer of his helmet and noticed him smiling. She did not know what he had to hide but she knew anyone who smiled as much as he did must be trudging through some deep stuff. None of her business. This was a one and done, that hopefully at least got her most of the way to Mexico. She put the helmet on and all she thought of was the sea waiting.
Sean sat quietly holding out the helmet until finally she took it. He sighed. His shoulders heaved with the soundless breathe and he watched the parking lot. He could see the shapes and shadows of the polices officers writhing around on the ground. Their bodies in the real world cast their shadows in this world. The land of shadows was home to many silhouttes drifting silently around, only following the lead of their master in reality. It was like watching echos of what was supposed to be. It was natural and it was beautiful, and it was hauntingly sad for some reason. Sean usually came here and was completely alone aside from these echos, these false shadows.
Sean's smile faded. He supposed he was smiling to put her more at ease. In the last twenty minutes he hit her with a car, lit her on fire her and threw her like a bulldozer through the windshield of a cop car. He wasn't exactly gentle with her. Still the smile faded because he didn't much feel like smiling. He was on the run again. And even though he practically oozed this bad boy persona out of every pour in his body he honestly was tired of running. Honestly he was just.... Tired.
He used the toe of his boot to raise the kickstand and lean the bike over. He inserted the key into the ignition and cranked the engine up. He revved the handle bars. He could feel the vibrations through his legs. Though it made no sound. The only way he was able to tell the bike was even own was by the subtle vibrations and the clouds of smoke jetting out of the back tailpipe. Sean grabbed her arms and wrapped them around his waste. Then he felt what felt like a broken bone. At least a dislocated elbow. Her arm was slightly floppy, from where she landed on it. Sean got off the bike.
He didn't have to speak for her to see what was on his mind. He grabbed her arm lightly and carefully tried to move it. His eyes willed with worry and concern. HIs lips took on a pouty quality. He pulled lightly at her arm and felt the resistance in his hand. He held up one finger. Then he held up two fingers. He held up three fingers and without a word; i mean seriously he couldn't say anything if he wanted too, he jerked her arm.
He felt something pop in his hands and he quickly reached into his saddle bag. He grabbed an old shirt and tied it into a sling. Setting her arm inside he placed the other end around her neck. Good thing there was no sound here. He didn't have to listen to her bitching and moaning the whole ride. He was smiling again. That last thought shot through his brain and he was grinning like an asshole. Of course he would think that was funny. He was a dickhead.
Sean got back on the bike and grabbed her good arm and wrapped it around him. Purely for the sake of holding on. He took one hand off of the handle bars and placed it over hers. She couldn't hold on nearly as good with one arm so he held onto her. With that he was driving them out of the parking lot. The bike was quiet, silence and the wind ripped at their faces but it was peaceful. The bright white moon in the sky looked down at them as they stormed across the open road. Thankfully there weren't too many cars out this late. Occasionally they passed a car here or there going 60 or so mph. They weren't so much cars as they were shadows of cars. Rough shapes and vague outlines. And even though they were just shadows they still existed. Sean definatly wouldn't want to hit one of those going 60 mph so he kept his eyes sharp.
After awhile though they found themselves on a lonely stretch of highway. There was a long way before they got anywhere. The next rest stop wasn't for 100 miles. It was them and the open road and the dead silence. Sean always found the silence here comforting. On some level at least. He drove quietly after about an hour or so he pulled over at the side of the road to check on his silent companion. He looked at her carefully. The sky was gray. Suddnely ice rained from the sky.
Sharp stabbing needles of pain. Sean looked up. He knew what was happening. It was raining. With the coldness of this place they felt like icecycles stabbing you. He grabbed her hand and bled back int othe real world. There was enough shadow on the side of the road cast by a highway sigh. Sean pulled her back to reality. He looked at the sign.
It read Mississipi 30 miles. Sean thought about it quietly. Behind them was the motorcycle. It idled there quietly, but at least auidbly now. He spoke with a surprisingly soft and thoughtful voice. "How's your arm." He asked. He reached up and scratched at the scuff along his chin. He looked at her with concern. They were well away from the cop's radar by now. They could afford to sit on the side of the road and have this small moment. He was an asshole, but at least he wasn't a fucking asshole.

She was glad that for once she could not scream. Pain she did not deal with well, physical at least. Emotional, well that was a long story and no one had time for that especially since needles started stabbing her. Her body jerked and she hated that. Right now she was at a state of "screw it," with this ability. Yeah it was cool at first and someone had even told her that when her mind and body got in full force connection she might be able to fly.
That was a hoot and a half. Anyway it was becoming pretty clear she needed to distance herself from Sean as she was not doing cold and then she felt herself being pulled out. She looked at the sign and then she heard him talking to her. She stood there dumbfounded, surely that was not real concern in his voice.
"Good enough, thanks."
She looked at the sign. Aw she was close to her hometown even though he did not know that. She could drop in and see her mom, well adoptive mom and then get to Mexico from there.
"I am not even going to pretend to understand what we were in, but you look like a person whose been through a lot. You should get some rest before you go too much further. Surely there is some family or something around you need to get back to? I imagine they are probably worried. Look when I get to Mexico and take care of my business down there, I'll send you a postcard just so you have some bright scenery to stare at."
Realm of darkness be damned. It had to eat at the mind or maybe it didn't his anymore. The fact that they were both on the run had not escaped her but he seemed to need a moment, hell maybe another lifetime from the small things she had seen in that realm. She preferred that word over world she thought.
She stepped to him. She noted how she was becoming like that annoying little sister. He was going to be her big brother at least until she got a hold of her sense of accident prone and not know it. God knows he had thrown her through enough stuff to fit the bill. The thing was she needed something to drive him. That was when she remembered how upset he had seemed to be over money.
"Want to make 250,000 on May 20th?"
That was a very nose on date especially from a girl who could not seem to focus or for that fact retain anything about anyone let alone a date. She was trying to calculate it in her head. That was about three weeks or so from now which would give her time to go to Mexico and get back.
"You'd just need to order something and leave an address. No funny business either, this has to be a straight forward deal."
Two and done. Seriously, two and she was done but first she needed to handle Mexico.

Sean looked at her for the longest time before saying anything. She still intended to head to Mexico. Even after everything, whatever was there must've been important. He kind of respected that she fearlessly was keeping true to her mission. She wasn't going to let a little thing like being wanted by the police stop her. Although, most people who are wanted by the police bitch and moan about making it to the Mexican boarder so what did he know. He knew nothing of her business or her reasons and honestly he didn't care.
He knew this girl was just going to end up behind bars or six feet under if she stuck around with him. Too much had happened already. She was sweet. Sean didn't do sweet. Sweet was what got you deserted at a sleezy motel in the south with all your shit stolen. That hadn't happened. Surprisingly she had robbed him. Just one more thing that earned his respect. He rubbed his chin with his hand. He figured this was goodbye. Sean wasn't bad at goodbyes. For those to be tough you had to feel something. He was about to shake her hand when she mentioned a big score.
"I don't know, sounds illegal. I like to stay on the right side of the law." He joked. Even though he was trying to be funny he couldn't keep a straight face for very long. He chuckled out loud at his dumb joke, until she explained more about it. Something about a specific date, a pickup or some kind. "Sure kid." He said just wanting to quiet her. He didn't really believe that she had criminal dealings of any kind. She was too vanilla. And even though she had robbed him in the middle of the night, she just didn't seem the type.
He smiled again. "Sounds great." He lied. There was a soft soothing, caring quality to his voice. He reached up, or started too. He was going to cup the side of her face, Brush the hair out of her eyes. Have something resembling a moment, but he didn't. Instead he handed her the helmet again. "I would ditch her after a few days." He said assuredly. "She's stolen, and you're on the run. Not smart to riding a stolen bike for too long."
Sean grabbed the rest of his stuff from the saddle bags and slung it all into the satchel that was on his shoulder. He took a step back and for whatever reason decided to hug her. It was a light hug, no longer than two mississippis. And then he let her go. Sean saluted her in a mocking way with two fingers to his forehead and turned around. He started to walk along the deserted desert stretch of highway. He walked until it got dark and disappeared. The only thing left behind was a faint smoke and a memory.
She listened and she knew better but sometimes it was nice to lay in a bed of lies. Well stand in this case. She watched him disappear and turned back to the bike. She kicked it down the highway. What good was a bike that she did not know how to drive. Even gone he had screwed her over.
Some amount of days later Location : Somewhere Mexico, rain
This hotel was sleazy to the point it was covered in roaches. Still she made her way in rung the bell. She let out a sigh of relief when it was a woman. She removed the sling off of her arm and spoke.
