Felix walked into the building with a purposeful strut. He was carrying a duffel bag with him. He put it on the conveyor belt and allowed it to get scanned through the x-ray machine. The alarm went off when the x-ray turned up a stockpile of guns and ammo inside the bag. He sighed and held out his badge. It was newly minted but it was still a badge. "You're clear Agent Russell." The woman said. Jesus it was like going to the freaking airport. He grabbed his bag and pressed the button on the elevator. Felix's arm raised up in a brisk motion as he checked his watch.
His brow was narrowed and there was a scowl on his face. It was technically his first day at G.A.D.E.M. He was technically the rookie here, though he had years of experience on the Police force in Norfolk, Virginia and even commanded a S.W.A.T. Team. Felix was a member of the bomb disposal squad and had special training in terroristic threat management and hostage negotiation. Still none of that prepared him for his New partner. As the elevator doors swung open and he was on the secret basement floor; yes, G.A.D.E.M.' field office, though it didn't hold many secrets was still in a discrete location. To the outside world this was just an office building. The interior would be lined with many cubicles. To the agents this was home base. The place where you came for assignments.
This was G.A.D.EM.'s absolute headquarters. The further he got down into this maze of secrets the more security seemed, more impressive. He already had to use a biometric thumbprint scanner to get the elevator to go to this secret floor. You got there by pressing basement and lobby door 'open' at the same time. A panel had opened up in the wall beside him and asked for his thumbprint. His prints were on file.
Sent over from The Norfolk Police department. He smirked at the biometric lock. He had never seen some shit like it. He was starting to feel more and more like James Bond. He had to admit that the security was pretty impressive. Though if you pressed him on the matter he would offer up suggestions on how to make it better. There was still that signature scowl painted on his face as his boots thudded likely on the tile floor.
The walls and scenery was becoming more sterile now. The walls were blindingly white and was the tile flooring. He walked down a narrow hall past af few agents in suits. They looked like FEDS. Felix decided they were both assholes without more than a few moment's glance at them. Coming to a door at the end of the hall there was an eye scanner. "Please present retina identification." A pleasant sounding female voice spoke. He leaned down and a green laser scanned his eye. "Confirmed. Welcome. Agent Felix Russell."
The doors whooshed open and he saw a busy hive of activity. There were agents moving this way and that. Some of them passed each other folders. A good healthy portion of them sat a a command center. There was a G.A.D.E.M.'s most wanted list. Sitting at the top of the list was some fucker named Gavin Sinclaire he had never heard of. Felix looked around as he moved through the sea of desks. After his second pass through he had enough. He threw his duffel bag down on the first empty desk he saw.
"Has anyone seen Agent Alex Turner?" He asked. Noticing a big well built man sitting at one desk.... His finger reached out and pushed the name plaque so he could read it. Agent Millood. The name tag read. Felix sighed. He already had case assigned to him and his partner though he had no idea what this Alex guy looked like. And why the fuck was he meeting him here if they both had to be on a flight? It made very little sense, but Felix checked his watch again and called out. "I'M LOOKING FOR ALEX TURNER! IS HE HERE?" He only hoped his partner showed up soon they were going to miss their flight.
Alex folded one leg over the other, the cold leather felt nice against her shoulders while she paged through the assignment with an almost excited touch to her gaze. While the idea of a new job intrigued her more than it should any other normal human being the thought of being shoved into the field with a new partner was about as annoying as it got. The last time they put her with a partner she ended up dragging his sorry ass out of a war zone in the middle east, it was a rough job but they ended up losing the escaped mutant because he rushed into a battle field halfcocked.
“Turner”, she rolled her eyes at the stoic mugshot of the new agent, closed the yellow manila folder and looked up to the spectacled face of Jones, he worked here longer than she did but he always did better at admin than he did at field work, “just a heads up – new guy’s looking for you”. She lifted her chin to look through the glassed in office, there was definitely a new guy and if she wasn’t losing her eyesight he was fondling Milhood’s name plaque.
“Looks like this’ll be a long flight”, Jones smiled briefly before disappearing with a stack of files tucked under his arm. She shut down the computer with a light chuckle as he called out for agent turner, a male one at that. Her fingers curled over the bag she set down on the seat opposite the desk and stepped out of the office with one hand balanced over her hip and the other holding onto the thick straps.
“He’s right here”, one agent passing by burst out laughing softly, she felt the familiar embrace of a smug smirk to her lips as she walked closer. Her short curls were loose and comfortably grazing her shoulders, she donned the familiar black pants that hugged her figure a little to well with a dark tank top concealed by a leather jacket she didn’t want to zip up.
“Agent Russel. You’re not a very patient man, are you?”, she held out a palm in a formal greeting although her eyes reflected a more casual nonchalance, Alex was the type of agent who never drudged up her past, who was a little too forward and brash and an absolute master at her job. She could shift between personas in a heartbeat, infiltrate dangerous groups with ease and kill mutants without remorse if the job calls for it.
“Stop stressing, we’ll make it with plenty of time”, she walked past him with a quick wink to the new intern, poor guy was about to break apart from the nerves of the stoic agents around him, she wasn’t a stranger to starting at the bottom but she always had a certain charm about her. Too damn bad it wasn’t enough to break her out of that old fucked up prison before they started cutting their marks into the soft skin of her back.
“I’m driving”, in the quick shift past Russel she slid her palm over his shoulder with a light tug at his jacket. She followed through the same shitty security protocols she had to endure every day. It was becoming a bit of a bore.
Alex waited until she slid into the standard issue car, she didn’t want to leave hers by the airport the entire time, her blue eyes carried a new sense of seriousness as she bore her intense gaze into his, “let’s just get one thing straight, if you fuck up an assignment I’ll put a bullet in your head and blame the dick we’re hunting. I don’t have time for screw ups, if the director didn’t have a stick up her ass I’d be working alone but we both know that’s not happening”. She waited patiently to see how he’d react, maybe he didn’t wasn’t as stubborn as he looked or maybe she just gave him all the incentive to hate her guts. Either way, the threat was clear.
Felix stood there with his hand on top of his duffel bag. He was expecting a man with the name Alex Turner. What he got was some bitchy broad riding the crimson tide. They were definatly going to be late to the airport. They were going to have to stop for tampons. He stood there and said nothing as she chewed him out and gave him the business. Felix leaned back slightly and blinked a few times as if he couldn't believe her giant man sized balls.
What the fuck just happened? Did i just get a scolding from my mommy? He wondered. Shaking his head he sighed. Whatever. He reached behind his ear and plucked the cigarette that rested there. He stuck it in his lips and started to follow her. She noticed a shy scrawny agent watching the two partners collide from the safety of his desk. Felix stopped and pointed at Alex who was already halfway out the door. "She always this fucking pleasent?" He asked with slight chuckle pushing through his lips. The agent shook his head. "No. Sometimes she's mean." He replied. "Riiiiight."
Felix replied with a dry humorless tone. He had a small cut across the bridge of his nose. His eye was black on the ride side and the fresh welt of a bruise painted his cheek. Felix had recently been in one hell of a fight and it showed. Grabbing his duffel bag he hoisted it over his shoulder. He carried it out with him with his wrist over turned. The back of his hand resting on hi shoulder as the bag bounced with every looming step. The cigarette in his mouth shifted and moved.
He used the tip of his tongue to move the filter around in his mouth while he held it between his teeth. He was bored. Slipping into the elevator just before the doors closed he nearly got his bag caught in the door. Standing beside Alex he shook his head and laughed again. She was really something. She was going to be a god damn dream to work that.
And he meant that in absolutely the most sarcastic way possible. Felix slipped into the car without much said between the too. There was a growing silence that got louder by the second. It wasn't until they were halfway to the airport that Felix turned to her and finally spoke up. "You know, what's your problem anyways? You fiind out your boyfriend was a mutie and you had to lock his ass up? I was hand chosen to be here, in this agency. Top of my class at the academy i was heavily recruited by special ops teams and secret government wetworks teams. When I say that I'm good you can believe it.
Why the fuck they saddled me with someone to babysit i have no idea. Look here chick. I get that you want to drop your balls on the table right off and let me admire them so i can see how big they are, but you gotta understand something. I will be calling the shots. I've never let a perp get away in my life and following your lead is likely to get us killed so hows about we start fresh? Hi! I'm Felix. I'm your new superior. Do what I say and shut the fuck up!" Felix smiled and readjusted in his seat satisfied having made his point he closed his eyes to take a nap until they got to the airport.
Alex listened to his every word with a dangerous glare building up in the intense azure blue of her eyes, the balls on this guy had to be fucking enormous. She mentally roasted the director and her other superiors for saddling her with a dick who had far too much to say, she even imagined shooting the bastard two blocks down and dumping the blame on a mutant fugitive. Still, she wasn’t shy about her thoughts and she wasn’t ever cautious about how she unleashed her mind on the world around her, especially when she could almost smell the arrogance steaming off the dick.
She stayed quiet for a few moments, reached down for that small, cold item tucked into the side of her healed boots. Her fingers curled over the metallic cold, brought her elbow back into his nose with more force than necessary and shifted to hold the small knife firmly against the skin of his neck, she still smiled almost charmingly with her other hand holding onto the steering wheel as she fluidly shifted lanes and passed by an asshole to wrapped up in his text messages too dig into the gas pedal.
“First of all, I don’t give a shit about how big a deal you think you are so you can shove all that bullshit up your ass. Secondly, if you call me chick again and I’ll be making my next keychain from that empty ball sack of yours. Lastly, you’re not calling any shots, we’re partners whether we like it or not so if you’re looking to flaunt your ego you’re welcome to find someone who gives a shit. You’re not my superior and I sure as hell won’t be shutting up for your convenience”, she pulled the knife back slightly only nearly missing the car that ran a red light.
Alex didn’t have a tragic mutant related background that drove her fury or lead her actions, instead she was simply recruited for the life of an agent ever since her dad ducked behind bars for pulling a con on some asshole politician. She would’ve turned out the same if she didn’t accept the CIA’s offer, one thing led to another and she glared at Felix with a cocky smirk plastered on her lips.
“Go ahead princess, take a nap. I’ll wake you when we get there”, she glanced down at the time with a challenging grin spreading over her features. Her foot grew heavy on the gas as the car sped towards the airport, she wasn’t exactly happy to be traveling to early in the day but the job called for it and who was she to say no to the stuck-up dicks signing her paycheck.
She could feel the internal groan at the idea of working with Felix, she wanted to bet against their survival even though she was biased. Alex gave it three days before she shoved a knife into his face but then again, she was almost certain he didn’t like her either. It was gonna be one hell of a flight, the fucking office even got them side by side seats. ‘Well shit’, the words echoed in her mind far too loudly for her taste, she’d brave hiding a body on a plane if it got down to it. Her lips parted to chuckle lightly at the thought, a humorless touch to the soft melody of her voice.
Felix's eyes weren't closed for a minute before the cool, harsh press of a blade playfully licked at his neck. Well, maybe not so playfully. His eyes opened slowly as he stared at her without turning his head. He listened to her words and he considered them carefully. He almost seemed thoughtful and considerate for a few moments. Felix wasn't a difficult man to figure out. He was rather simple actually. He lived by a code of ethics. He was short with anyone who he assumed would hold him down or keep him back. He just had no time for politeness for the sake of politeness. He was blunt and crude and a little cocky, but that''s what brought him to the dance in the first place.
"Fair enough." He said with a growing arrogance and nonchalance to her thread. She still had the blade pressed to his throat as he smiled in her direction. "Look. Obviously this little pissing match isn't getting us anywhere. Its fun and damn girl you sure can piss! But it's not going to get us anywhere. Let's start with credentials. I was former army ranger. Did two tours overseas, brought back stateside i joined the police force, special assignments hostage negociation, bomb squad.. S.W.A.T. I was recruited personally by Olivia Chase to be with G.A.D.E.M. I'm not some mutant hating hick. I got reason. Focus. I set my sights on a target and I accomplish a mission."
He breathed lighter when she pulled the blade away from his neck. "Now that we put our dicks away we can start focusing on the case files. I have 5 here. Faxed over and picked up this morning." Reaching between his legs he unzipped his duffel bag and pulled out 5 folders. "McKenzie Montgomery A.K.A Wreckshop. Powers include elastic skin and extreme bounciness? What the fuck is this?
Special note. Daughter of president elect Bob Devin. High priority recapture....." Felix took a look at Wreckshop's folder and tossed it in the backseat uninterested. He opened the next one. "Ashley Sullivan. Also goes by Ash or Sully. Magnetic field manipulation. Mutant level Beta though considered extremely unpredictable and highly dangerous. This one sounds like a winner." Felix set it at the top of his interested pile. "Uh... let's see.... We have Rakim Ellis, holy voice healing. Runs a church out of south central L.A."
Not all mutants were bad. Some tried to help their communities, but if the ywere on Felix's list he was bringing them down with the same ferocity as any other scumbag. "We have... Scarlett.... Well god damn this one's a looker. Powers include fear inducement.... Hmm.. Bet she'd make you see the horrible vision of someone removing the stick out of your ass." He chuckled. No, he wasn't trying to start another fight but he couldn't resist. He set Scarlet down in the maybe pile. They had to tackle all the cases, though the order they did them in was completely up to them. Felix had one more file.
He opened it to see the words human on the page. "A human who has been taking out agents left and right? Yeah we're definatly handling this one first. Clara Winslow. Well looks like we need ticks for New York when we get to the airport." He said settling into his seat and familiarizing himself with everything that had to do with Clara Winslow.
Alex couldn’t deny his impressive track record but she’d keep that little detail a truth for herself, still, she gave an impressed nod at the end of his words. She was happy to see he had more balls than her last partner, he was a dick but she could deal with dicks if they could manage not to get themselves killed and he carried all the telltale signs of an excellent soldier. “Dad was a conman, got locked up when I was sixteen, that was around the time the CIA recruited me. Long story short, I’ve seen my fair share of wars, done a whole lot of shit the government won’t admit to among other things. I was working an infiltration gig down in the Middle East when Chase recruited me. Been with the agency ever since”, the words left her lips with a calm nonchalance. It was only fair the asshole knew the bare basics about her, they were gonna work together for as long as neither of them died after all.
“Also didn’t lock up my boyfriend for being a mutie, no tragic back story for you to poke at”, she rolled her eyes with a playful glare to Felix, she’d give the asshole a shot to prove the cocky stories of resume true. Alex still thought she was better at her job than he was, she’d keep that thought as a prominent motivation to up him at every chance she could without compromising their assignments. Nothing surpassed her focus to get the job done, whatever it turned out GADEM needed.
“How the fuck does that even work?”, she shook her head with scrunched brows at the mutant’s ability, how the hell does extreme bounciness even work. She groaned softly, that assignment had to be tossed to the bottom of their priorities, she didn’t have any patience with politics and she sure as hell didn’t want to spend her time chasing a bouncy ball.
she nodded at each name, she preferred the raw intensity of danger over futile negotiations, a little shootout against Sullivan might prove challenging enough to fill that empty space she filled with a deep dedication to her profession. There was a confliction in her mind, she wasn’t sure how she’d hunt down Ellis, she did her job regardless but she knew GADEM showed no mercy, not even when mutants showed no hostility to the human race.
Her eyes immediately rolled into a dangerous glare, she turned the slightest to look at him with an unamused look etched onto her features. “Yeah, maybe I’ll shove it up yours in turn”, her eyes lit up in a charming promise as she refocused her attention on the road in front of her. For a second she could’ve sworn she saw human printed over the top of a new file, she was intrigued at the prospect of a sort of vigilante with her sole intentions focused on the agency.
“Shouldn’t be too hard to hand, I just hope you live up to your busy resume”, she frowned down at the clock with a hint of mischief washing over her features, “buckle up princess. We’re almost there”. She opened the window in the slightest and welcomed the rough tug of the wind to her curls.
