Alyssa was bored with life, it was a regular and intermittent feeling she was all too used to. She’d been to Rome a week ago but it just wasn’t the same without the whole Caesar drama, it was a good time to be alive. Besides, the rest of the world was annoying her and by the time she fully appreciated the touch of sun against her skin she’d come across a carnival. Of course, she could avoid it and go to the Bahamas like she planned but she thought the states would see her a while longer. Perhaps there was something more to this place than meets the eye, besides, she wasn’t feeling a long flight anyway. Alyssa shut off the car and tossed the keys into her pocket before sauntering inside.
It was actually kind of nice, she hadn’t been to a circus in the last two decades and she craved popcorn. She offered the money to the young man selling tickets and reached back to pull her tied up hair loose. The cool breeze was relaxing to her bare arms and she couldn’t help but admire the people around her. Mundane individuals always seemed to keep her interest purely for the sake of their ignorance. At least back when she was an advocate for Cleopatra’s war she was considered a god, albeit in Greece she was treated far better.
Nevertheless, she got herself a bag of popcorn before eagerly appeasing her taste buds. Her heeled boots caught on a stone but she gracefully caught her balance and moved through the throngs of people. A young girl barely eleven called out fearfully as a helium balloon inched towards the atmosphere. Alyssa’s slender arm reached up before the red balloon could stretch beyond her limits before holding the white string down to the young kid.
“Hold on tight alright”
The girl greeted her with a vibrant smile as Alyssa stalked farther into the festivities. She tried winning a giant teddy bear from a busy stand but she ended up giving it to the first lovestruck couple she came across. She wasn’t sure where she’d sleep tonight but the road for her was far from over and adventure was still hers for the taking.

I want to hear you calling my name. I know you want it in the worst way.
The air was heavy with particles of wood dust and other plant matter floating in a rhythmic dance. She was sitting with her legs to the side of her in the damp soil of the woods. Her dress was a layered mess with dirt clinging to it but she was zoned out. Muffled sounds of sniffles and sobs were soft but they were loud in the silence of the area. Slowly the area of destruction was expanding inch by inch things started to disintegrate. Truthfully this was barely scratching the surface of powers she could unlock but she was just to afraid. So many times she had killed the ones she grew close to and she was reeling in her mind over it.
Her attention did turn when she heard a voice behind her and it caused her to scramble to her feet. "Get away from me!!! I'm a monster...I will kill you and I wont even mean to." It was obvious by the look in her blood shot eyes and the fear on her face. Her hand swished the air and sent a air wave towards him pushing him back onto his ass. It was better to just push him way now before something happened that could cause her to lose control. She had leveled entire towns in the past and luckily the circus moved a lot so no one actually found out what happened. "It was a mistake to get close to anyone. I'm sorry..." Andi spoke in a saddened tone as she watched him from a what she considered a safe enough distance.
Though through all of the nights events her senses made her attention turn back to the Circus. She could feel the power level of a mutant that just stepped onto the ground. Her eyes closed and she went silent as she focused carefully to find the being. Locking onto the blonde haired woman she turned her mind to Gavin. "Mr. Gavin. I just sensed a High level Mutant on the grounds. Blonde hair and about my height and she just walked away from ring toss. Should I meet you there?" This message would only be heard in his mind like a passing thought. For the moment she forgot she was even with anyone in the middle of the woods.
Her attention turned when she opened her eyes she saw Sameal Standing there still. Moving towards him she just stopped a few inches away. "We need to head back now. Sorry I ruined your night." There was a frown on her lips as she brushed past and tried to keep her distance. Andi craved the closeness she felt and the warmth of his body close but she was deathly afraid of that. She was afraid of him also finding out she took his memories away and kept him prisoner.

There was a quiet buzz and hiss of the tattoo gun meeting sacred flesh. Gavin was putting the finishing touches on a new piece of work. A new creation. Something wondeful. Something terrible. His arm was swollen and red and bits of blood dripped over the side of his forearm and rolled down to the tabel. He was so tired. His eyes threatened to close as he sat there. With his eyes falling closed gently he reached for a wrap to cover his arm. It had to have time to heal.
He could feel the beating of his pulse pushing through his arm. Thump thump. Thump thump. Every thump of his blood vessels sending blood through his arm breathed a little more life into his creation. It wouldn't fully be born until the healing had stopped and it had time to scab over and heal. Until then his tattoo was like a baby in the womb. It was just a life hanging on to life support and waiting for a chance to spring forth into the world and see it with it's own eyes. Gavin silenetly wrapped a piece of guaze around his arm and taped it off. Gavin stood up and started heading towards his bed. Her was so very tired.
The life of a traveling man was not an easy one, but he had so much work to do. So many things going on behind the scenes. No one, not even his most trusted saw the full picture. Gavin Sinclair hated the humans. Filthy, nasty, destructive humans. He brought life into this world with his beautiful gift. What did they do besides destroy it? They were blind destructive consumers and they sought to devour everything with their gluttonous nasty ways of life.
Just thinking about them made his stomach turn. He rolled his eyes and started towards a small bed in the corner of his trailer. That is when Andromeda's thought shot through his mind like a spear. He closed his eyes and responded. A simple thought was all it took. He assured her it was okay, and that he did not wish for her to join him. He could handle this one all on his own. Gavin glanced at the soft comfort of his bed and slouched his shoulders. Oh what he wouldn't give to lie down. But a ringmaster's work is never done. Gavin pushed open the door to his trailer and stepped outside.
The carnival was buzzing with life. His mutants in the circus were taking care of everything. They handled the rides and the tickets, the hotdog carts and the ferris wheel. Humans gave some of them nasty looks. The ones with visible mutations that is, but they happily allowed the mutants to be their servant class. Operating their rides and cleaning up after them in the portapotties. Gavin walked past one such worker coming out of a porta potty.
It was a mutant with an extra jaw and three extra eyes. He was one of the freaks from the freakshow. Gavin stopped as a few young girls walked past the deformed mutant laughing at him to his face as they did. "Should i hide until nightfall Mr. Sinclair?" The mutant asked. Gavin shook his head. "No. There's no need for that." He felt his blood boiling and he nodded at a mutant across the way. A blue mutant with laser red eyes named Ghost. Ghost knew what that nod meant. And those two rude young girls were not going to be seen again. They were going to go missing that day, but at the very least cosmic justice was preserved. Gavin had balanced the scales in his own small way.
Gavin headed over to the ring toss. He searched for the girl in question. Some special mutant. Gavin could not sense abilities. He had to rely on his gut. His gut was telling him that he had found his girl. He was not needed for the big top show until later in the evening. He had time to get to know the young lady more personally. Gavin saw that she had some carnival tickets in her hand. He reached over the counter to one of the games and grabbed a hand full of loose tickets.
WIth a warm smile he called out to her. "Miss! Miss! You dropped some of your tickets." He offered her a warm smile and handed her the tickets. "Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Gavin Sinclair. I own this circus." He said taking a modest bow. "Are you having a good time?" His eyes cut across to a tent across the way, in the secluded corner of the carnvial. There was the violent flapping of a tent flap. Ghost had grabbed the girls in question. His eyes returned back to Alyssa. He wondered what is was that was so special about her.
Alyssa kept to herself mostly, gnawing on popcorns every few seconds while watching the bustling crowd going about their business. She appreciated the taste of chaos and drama and to be fair, the world around her was getting boring in the slightest. The last thing she expected was a voice calling out to her, at first she stopped briefly pondering whether the dropped tickets were hers or thee lean red head darting to the left in front of her. She lifted her brow with a curious smirk and turned to look at the stranger with a bundle of carnival tickets clutched in his palm.
“Pretty sure I only had these but I was never one to turn down free stuff”, she tossed the empty popcorn back into a dumpster to her right before glancing at the man in front of her. He reminded her of a medical practitioner she knew in the late 1600’s, albeit the bastard killed more people than he saved. Thankfully this ironically resembling man didn’t carry the same white apron splattered with blood.
“It’s nice, a little boring for my taste”, she rolled her eyes slightly in the truth of her words. She loved a little more drama and a lot more chaos but these days the world turned a little more civilized, although she’d give another life to go back to the bloody gladiator fights back in the old world. a gnawing feeling in the pit of her stomach held her rooted to the conversation though, there was more to this carnival than meets the eye, even if she couldn’t put her finger on it.
“You can keep your tickets Gavin, I’m not gonna stick around for much longer”, her deepest debate was deciding whether the carnival held more excitement than the Bahamas. Or perhaps she’d visit that old banshee girl in India, now that girl always made life a little more interesting. And dangerous but danger wasn’t exactly a deal breaker for Alyssa. She’d just be reborn anyway, naked and cold in some damp caves in Greece but reborn nonetheless.
Samael hadn’t meant to startle her, but he deserved being put on his ass. It’s how he felt at this moment. Like an ass. He just wanted to do something nice with the girl everyone seemed to ignore. He sat there for a moment before standing up. “You’re not a monster.” His voice was softer than usual.
“Nothing is your fault in this.” His eyes shone with truth and what could possibly be seen as adoration, and concern. But he was a little confused as to why she looked back to the grounds. Scratching the back of his neck he cleared his throat. Now she’d probably never want to talk to him again. ‘Damn it… Samael you’re a screw up as always.’ He thought and kicked at a tree as he turned.
He’d never felt this insecure before. At least not that he could remember from a few months ago. “You didn’t ruin our night.” He shrugged at her apology. She didn’t need to be apologizing. “You don’t need to apologize for anything.” Looking at her bloodshot eyes, her tear stained cheeks. Maybe it would’ve been better to leave her alone. Then he wouldn’t have put her through this pain.
He didn’t exactly understand, but he had a feeling it was those mutants looking at them. But walking next to her his wing bent out and around her. He wanted to shield her, protect her. He didn’t want Andi hurting like she was, and it was his fault. “I’m sorry… about tonight. I mean… I don’t exactly understand what happened. But I feel like if I hadn’t asked you to dance it wouldn’t have happened.” He didn’t know why he was starting to run his mouth. It would probably land him deeper in the dog house, but he didn’t care at the moment. He wanted to get it off his chest.
“But… I couldn’t just see you being alone anymore. No woman deserves to be isolated for whatever reason there is. Well, I guess except for a contagious disease, but you aren’t sick. And you certainly aren’t a monster. People lose control of their abilities all the time.” He didn’t want to sound like he was down playing anything. “I saw what you can do. All the telekinesis, the disintegration. I’m pretty sure that some of us could do a lot of damage too. Anyway, god losing my train of thought.”
He looked at Andi with his clear blue eyes. “You’re not alone feeling that way. Everyone does. Even humans do sometimes… I think. Hell… I feel like a monster half the time. All because I survived a crash that killed my mom.” He looked down at the ground as his fists clenched tight. He shoved them into his tight leather pants pockets. “Survivors guilt they called it… then worse is when I couldn’t remember a damn thing about her or our lives together.” He could feel his own tears welling but he looked up to the stars as they twinkled in an out of existence in their black void of space.

Gavin smiled at the woman. He was squinting against the sun. His brows raised in curiosity as he gazed upon her pale light features. "No excitement?" He almost laughed at the notion. Gavin had many wonderful surprising in store. Not only was his circus the primo of the crop, but he had the best rides and games this side of Alibaster! Maybe rides and games wasn't for everyone. Maybe something a little more brutal, something with a little more edge. "What about the mutant fights?" He asked. There was a playful hint to his voice. Gavin reached up and scratched his eye with one finger as he peeked to see if his question landed. He wanted to see curiosity and intrigue spread across her face.
The big top show was about to start soon. Gavin reached behind his back and subtly pulled a ticket out of his pocket. The ticket was admission for one show under the big top tent. He dipped his presentation in a little theatrics and coated it with a extra helping of showing off. He pretended as if the ticket appeared out of thin air like a magic trick. "What's this? A ticket to the mutant fights?" It was a crude name. Mutant fights. Not very elegant at all, but he didn't care. The humans seemed to like it better than something that actually gave dignity to the mutants.
It was meant to be barbaric and violent. It was meant as a way for humans to spend their hard earned money betting on which mutant freak would take out the other mutant freak. For Gavin it was just another part of the show. A means to an end. Gavin had his reasons for everything he did. He had a reason why he put up with the indignity. Gavin handed her the ticket. It was gold and it caught the reflection of the sun. It almost seemed to shine in her hand. Gavin's teeth were pearly white and on full display in his grin. "See you in there. Gavin ran inside the big top tent to get ready for the show.
The music was loud and blaring. Circus music blasted from speakers all around the circus. They were more loud inside the big top. Gavin strolled to the center of the arena and took a bow in the spotlight. The crowd was cheering to see Gavin as they knew the show was about to begin. "Ladies and gentlemen. What you are about to witness is not for the faint of heart. I warn you. Should you have small children, they should leave now. Cover their eyes! Because you are about you could very well witness a man's death! Our current, raining defending champion! Ghost!" The spotlight shifted to a blue mutant chained to four pillars. Gavin's voice was loud. Carried through the speakers by a wireless microphone. He was no longer in the spotlight, but his voice still traveled through the darkness.
"Can he escape in time to save himself? Or while he be ripped apart by horrible horrors??" The spotlight shining on Ghost saw him chained to four pillars. Each hand cuffed to a post. Each foot cuffed to a post. His body suspended in the air like a giant X. It was part of the opening act. Ghost was a good performer. He had been here before. Ghost would use his powers of telekinesis to set himself free and 'vanquish' Gavin's monsters trying to tear him to shreds. It was an act he had done a million times.......
Ghost didn't care. He was smiling and drawing in the energy of the crowd. For some reason their blood lust always tickled him to death. They cheered for his obliteration and Ghost only smiled and waved. His hand was cuffed tightly so the most he could manage was turning his palmed wrist slightly like the queen of fucking England, but it got the job done. Ghost was loving the spotlight. He always did. He was the star of Gavin's show.
He was the most beloved fighter in the troop. He was the circus Champion. Ain't no one was able to be him! The fights were real. Maybe a little choreographed but they didn't pull no punches. It was probably the spirit of the competition, but they finished the mutant fights with more bumps and bruises than they knew what to do with. The circus healer had his hands full after every show.
Ghost waved as Gavin's voice continued in the darkness. "HE WILL BE CHALLENGED TONIGHT..... BY THE TERRIFYING LIKES OF......MONSTERS YOU COULDN'T EVEN DREAM OF. THINGS THAT CRAWL FROM THE DEEPEST AND DARKEST CORNERS OF YOUR NIGHTMARES AND WAIT FOR YOU TO CRY OUT IN THE NIGHT. THESE THINGS ARE THE EMBODIMENT OF EVERYTHING THAT YOU FEAR!"
Ghost rolled his eyes at Gavin's speech. HE was really hamming it up tonight wasn't he? Ghost thought. He waited for the drum roll to start that was his cue to start working on the cuffs. It was part an escape act. Partly a laser light show, but mostly it was staged. Gavin's creatures wouldn't hurt the star of the show would they? And after all. Ghost knew better than to harm a hair on the heads of Gavin's creatures. "I will now make sure the shackles are securely locked and tightly in place. "
Ghost heard Gavin's voice say over the microphone. "Show time." He told himself, putting on his game face Ghost began to get ready. Gavin hurried over and started pulling on the chains and locks. He stopped a moment when he finished checking them. Gavin smiled at Ghost. It was an odd smile. One that Ghost didn't like.

"I know it was you, who let the boy get away." Ghost was confused when Gavin said these words in his ear. "Cameron was special. Now I have to get him back. You really disappointed me son." Ghost wanted to say something, but what could he say? He had no idea what was going on. He was just speechless. Then Gavin said something that sent a shiver down his spine. "I'll miss you." Gavin said with a sincerity in his voice that made Ghost nervous. Gavin stepped back several steps. He removed his red jacket and tossed it aside. His eyes were locked on Ghost and his smile was ever growing. Gavin lowered his arms to his sides. There were two spotlights now.
One on Gavin Sinclair and the other on the helpless Ghost. Ghost tried to use his telekinetic powers to unlock the shackles, but Mute was stopping him. Mute stood in the back, by the curtain. His hand stretched out in the darkness towards Ghost. He was canceling out most of Ghost's mutant genes. He could have fully canceled them. That would have turned Ghost a lovely shade of human pink. He would have looked no different than any other ordinary white guy. Mute did not cancel out his genes completely. This had to look like an accident.
Gavin was not trying to send a message, he was simply dealing with a problem. Gavin stood back and ink began to run from his finger tips. It dripped off the ends of his fingers and into the dirt. The crowd gasped as claws started scratching their way up from the dirt. The claws of a rather special tattoo... The cerberus. Gavin's ink had dripped from inside his skin down his arm, dancing and waterfalling it's way around the edges of his other tattoos. The ink never left his skin. It simply dripped through his skin like a moving tattoo until it dripped off his fingers and seeped into the soil. Now it was alive. The claws began a paw, then a leg, then a torso and a head followed by two more massive heads. It was a giant three headed dog. A Rottweiler to be exact.or Rottweiler(s).
Gavin lifted the microphone as his dog stood menacingly still. "CAN THIS MAN FREE HIMSELF IN TIME?" Gavin lowered the mic and smirked. "I think not." He said to himself, away from the microphone. Raising the microphone again he added "OR WILL THE JAWS OF FATE RIP HIM APART? LET'S SEE SHALL WE?" This was a show they had done a million times before, but now Mute was stopping Ghost from fighting back. Gavin sicked his dog on the helpless ghost and off he went. Galloping full speed hungry eyeing it's chew toy. Ghost was not able to free himself in time. Instead he was torn to pieces in front of a watchful crowd. Gavin didn't watch the bloodshed. Instead he turned back to the tent to see if Alyssa had seen the show.
Alyssa felt her brow lift in curiosity moments before an excited grin grew to life on her ruby tinted lips. Mutant fights, that sounded just as interesting as the old gladiators. Now that, that was worth staying for. She could already feel her immortal sense for danger and excitement spring to life and she couldn’t hide the enthusiasm in her eyes.
“Now that’s something I might even be interested in”, Alyssa took the ticket with a glint of excited mischief dancing to life in her gaze. “So you’re a magician too huh? I hope the fights won’t be a ton of special effects – I’m dying for a little spilt blood”, while she wasn’t reluctant to do a good deed every now and then the endless years of life sparked some lack of sympathy in the pit of her soul and it became the very basis of who she was. If Alyssa had to be bothered by every immoral thing in this world she’d be plagued for the rest of her eternity and that was a curse she didn’t want to choose.
Alyssa kept quiet as she watched him slip into the big top tent but after a moment staring into the sunset’s dancing hues she opted to slip inside without sparing a second thought to the Bahamas. Nothing there would be this barbaric and absolutely addicting, of course she had no choice but to delve deeper into the dark mysteries of the carnival.
Inside the tent she could barely hear the string of her own thoughts over the loud, eccentric circus music blaring through speakers all around the massive space. Ghost, a rather dull and unattractive name, nevertheless she stepped forward with a deep eagerness to witness the bloodshed. Alyssa lifted a brow glancing at the mutant chained to the pillars, she couldn’t help but wonder how exactly this whole illusion of theirs could go horribly wrong.
She had to give Gavin points for initiative and excitement rippled through her at the sight of Cerberus growing to life from the soil in front of her. Alyssa had a gnawing feeling that the bonds that shackled the odd looking mutant wouldn’t give way for his survival, over the years she’d learned that that annoying whisper resonating through her gut feeling was almost always right.
Her lips curled into a ruby grin watching the bloodshed in front of her, she saw the couple to her right yell in fear and avert their gaze but she couldn’t tear hers away. Shifting her curious glance from the mutant being ripped to shreds she found herself glancing at Gavin with an appreciative nod.
“Damn glad I didn’t leave and miss this”, the words weren’t meant for any ears but her own. Alyssa was patient as people started filing out of the tent after the show, she was curious what gavin would say to her now. Besides, as much fun as it was watching a man get ripped to shreds she did have a certain appreciation for a good fight and the lack of defense made her almost crave a fight for herself. Needless to say, her plans for the night stretched as far as the end of the show where she approached Gavin with a cocky smirk, “and here I was thinking I’d see a fight? Good show though, I’m guessing he screwed up somehow”.
