Before either her or Laura could say anything else, Stephanie heard Joseph awaken and say hello...Rolling down the window his eyes peered over it and he smiled. “Hi…” He said with a yawn and a wave. His more childish nature coming out as he chuckled some. “Why are we by the river?” He asked. He hadn’t ever really thought about the secrecy that Stephanie would have to have while talking about hiding him away. Joseph was just happy to be in a place far away from those dastardly men.
Chuckling as she turned away for a moment, blushing as she momentarily thought about her own brother before turning back around and introducing Laura to Joseph. "Joseph, this is a good friend of mine, Laura Costigan," pausing as Laura introduced herself to Joseph. "We were talking about how best to keep you safe," having heard him ask if they were having a secret spy meeting. Should we tell him? she thought to herself, arguing with herself over it before deciding to throw caution right out the window - or out into the Hudson, as it were, "which is our priority right now. Joseph, Laura and I - and Gorman and Vasquez as well," pointing towards her fellow agents, "are members of a mutant rights organization here in the New York City area. When we're not out protecting the world from the scourges of crime and drugs, we're working to protect individuals such as yourself from other parts of the government; Laura and I are two of the group's leaders." Pausing to open the back passenger door so that she should crouch down next to Joseph, Stephanie added as Laura kept watch on everyone, "and we're going to do everything we can to protect you, Joseph; you have our word on it..."

WORDS: 000 | TAG: @tag | NOTES: xyz
Clara wiped the blood onto her pants with a dangerous glare to the bulky fellow strapped to the thick pipe jutting out of the wall with more rope than she thought was necessary. Precaution was still a nice little thought to take into account. Clara didn’t don the general look of a murderer or perhaps a mercenary in fight against a covert government agency that endangered every mutant, good or bad. Especially good, she caressed the pendant her father bought her with a soft sigh, the knife twirled in her fingers still dripping from the slashed carotid of the bald man sprawled out behind her. Clara crouched in front of the bulky man still mumbling inaudible crap behind a strap of duct tape, she waved the bloody blade in front of his face with a menacing glare.
“Let’s quickly get a few rules down alright. I speak, you listen. If you’re gonna yell all melodramatically I’m gonna shove the knife up your ass. You and your little GADEM dicks were looking for a mutant, I want to know where he is. Right now.”, Clara winked almost playfully as she tucked a nail under the duct tape and ripped it from his mouth with a rough tug.
“You little bitch”, Clara rolled her eyes shoving the blade of the knife into his leg. She didn’t bother worrying about the deep painful groan slipping past his lips. The house was abandoned, no one would even hear. “Don’t make me dig out your guts”, she wasn’t even that bad a person but when it came to GADEM she would do practically anything regardless of how bloody or ruthless it was.
Clara was about to give a little more motivation when his radio burst to life in the corner, “see now I have absolutely no reason to keep you around. Say hi to the devil when you see him”, she ripped the knife from his leg and shoved it into his chest without an ounce of remorse dancing in her gaze. she picked up the radio, frowned at the GADEM voices relaying information to each other and held it close to her ear.
’We lost them near the George Washington bridge sir, heading East from the Library now’, she tucked the radio into the backpack slung over her shoulder, slipped the knife into her boot and sprinted for the stolen car parked outside. Clara followed the voices on the radio until she saw the familiar tinted windows and soulless men driving closer towards the bridge.
‘Suspects seen near the bridge, moving in for closer inspection’, Clara weaved in and out of traffic with the standard issue GADEM vehicle, she watched the assholes take a sharp turn towards the bridge with interest. It wasn’t until she saw two parked cars that she knew the bastards were onto something. She sped up and rammed the nose of her own car into the side of the GADEM operatives’ car. Her head rolled into the windscreen and slammed back to her seat with a hard thud.
She pulled up a heavy arm, pulled a gun from the passenger seat and pulled the trigger. The sight of blood did nothing to her, it made her feel more euphoric than regretful – only because if was GADEM. Any other bloodshed normally left her nauseous and uncomfortable.
She stumbled out of the car and waved casually towards the first people she saw, “I’m not with them, I just wanna help”. Her tone was sincere, her gaze softened and she looked like an average 22 year old girl covered in blood and a small bruise touching the skin of her forehead.
And if you're still breathing
you're the lucky ones. cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.

Before Stephanie could finish explaining everything to young Joseph, her Blackberry chirped; swiping it on, she said, "Go ahead."
"Steph, its' Coop; you got company coming," said her friend from the NSA down in Washington, D.C.; seconds later she could hear over the phone... ’We lost them near the George Washington bridge sir, heading East from the Library now’, followed by ‘Suspects seen near the bridge, moving in for closer inspection’. Swearing a few choice obscenities Stephanie said, "Let me guess, GADEM?"
"You got it; I figure you got less than five minutes to get out before they arrive," he said, to which Stephanie quipped, "Oh, you're just full of surprises--"
"Well, you did say you wanted something hot and black inside you, right," NSA Agent Cooper deadpanned, to which Stephanie deadpanned back, "Fuck you, Cooper; just keep GADEM off our ass!" Swiping the Blackberry off, she rapped on the side window; when Gorman rolled it down, she said, "We gotta' go, we got company coming. Laura, we'll take your vehicle; you're driving."
"I'm driving?!" Laura exclaimed; before Stephanie could reply, there came a loud, crashing sound as if someone had just crashed into someone else. "They're here already; come on, let's go, lets' get out of the vehicle," Stephanie said; rushing over to where Joseph was, she knelt down and said quietly, "Joseph, go over to the SUV, to Laura's vehicle, quickly quickly," getting up so that he could rush over there...
Ninety-nine times out of hundred, Stephanie's first reaction would've been to draw her Glock and let fly some rounds; this time, she didn't draw, instead saying to her, "We could use the help," motioning for her to keep an eye on the area for the moment. Rushing back over to the Crown Vic, she looked over at Gorman and Vasquez. "Guys, once everyone's out and away, torch the Crown Vic; there's an old, beat-to-shit Camaro other side of the bridge abutman. Take that back to the office; I'll meet you two there later on. Now go!"
Turning back and rushing over towards Laura, Joseph and the stranger, Stephanie said, "Let's climb into the SUV and get the hell outta' here, alright? We'll talk," pointing towards the newcomer in their midst, "once we're mobile and out of the area."
Hearing Stephanie’s words and being introduced to another person to help keep him safe Joseph was happy to have more friends. He gave a sleepy smile feeling the protection she talked about by just being here. He was happy to keep this feeling and try to fall back asleep until he heard the phone ring. He looked around feeling for his phone thinking it was his family when really it was Stephanie’s.
Looking up he was a little concerned as she spoke. ‘They know?’ He pulled out his phone and turned it off. He only had a small percentage left and wanted to keep it for revisiting his voicemails. That’s when he heard the crashing and a cute girl walked out of one of the vehicles.
When Stephanie came back over and told him to get into the other vehicle he held tight to the jacket that was still over him and nodded. “Okay…” He said and got out quickly. “I can get rid of the car… easier than burning it.” He said and looked to his hand as it turned black and showed them. He could help them out by doing this.
“Let me help… please.” He watched as Gorman and Vasquez looked to Stephanie and grabbed their things getting out. Joseph placed both hands on the car once they were out and closed his eyes letting the power seep in through the metal and plastic. It cracked and groaned as purple veins began to show coursing through the car, and even through the windows. Ash started to fall from were his hands touched and then in a cloud of smoke it turned to a large pile of ash.
He looked back to everyone as his hands turned back to normal and looked at everyone. He was proud to be helpful, but he didn’t really realize what he had just done. But he hurried to the other car watching as Gorman and Vasquez headed to their respective car. After everyone got in Joseph looked to the new girl and smiled shyly before looking at the ground and placing the jacket over him like a blanket again.

Before anyone could say anything, Joseph spoke up in that quiet voice that Stephanie found, wonder of wonders, endearing - a reminder of her brother's voice at times...
For several moments everyone stood still, waiting for Stephanie to make a decision; looking right at Joseph, she said, "Let's go then; it'll beat wasting gas and matches." Quickly she barked out orders. "Laura, get the SUV turned around; Clara, you help her and keep your eyes open. Goramn, you and Vasquez take off; I want them to think we split up into two groups...and switch SIM cards on all your phones; Laura's got a fresh set in her vehicle." Pointing towards the soon-to-be-destroyed Crown Vic, Stephanie added, "Let's get it done and let's get back to the others, okay?"

Clara almost automatically felt for a tear in the skin over her temple where a dull throb drew her attention, a happy sign left her lips at the knowledge that she didn’t have to think up another lie to hide her illegal activities from Marty. “Perfect, call me Clara”, Clara made the introduction brief, slipped the gun into her waistband and slowly eased into the odd feeling of following someone else’s lead.
Her brow lifted at the sight of Joseph’s powers rendering the vehicle to nothing but a pile of ash, she was impressed. Not the greatest mutation to have when it got out of control but she admired the raw intensity of his mutation. “Well, that’s handy”, she muttered the words softly and spared Joseph a kind smile with a reassuring touch to her gaze.
Clara happily waited at the second car until Joseph slid in, that way she was a barrier from whatever was outside in an effort to keep him safe. “Don’t have to ask me twice”, Clara pulled the gun from her waistband, readied a bullet in the chamber and set the cold metal safely between her knees where she could grab it if the occasion called for it.
“You have no reason to trust me”, she spoked loudly scanning the surrounding landscape with a hawl like intensity, “but I’m your greatest ally against GADEM”. She paused for a second looking to the dark haired women who risked themselves for the life of a mutant, a highly respectable act that Clara admired. “You have a plan right? Somewhere to take him?”, she normally led the mutants to Xavier’s school, they rarely ever saw her for longer than a second but Clara knew they had the resources to help and aid their own kind. Other times she used her connections to dodgy individuals and helped them fled the country, she was genuinely curious if there was another plan entirely for Joseph.

Watching Joseph destroy the Crown Vic with just a touch of his hand, Stephanie thought to herself, Remind me never to get you upset at me, son, walking quickly with him back towards Laura's SUV; climbing in, she found everyone keeping an eye out through the windows for any GADEM agents approaching.... “You have a plan right? Somewhere to take him?”, she normally led the mutants to Xavier’s school, they rarely ever saw her for longer than a second but Clara knew they had the resources to help and aid their own kind.
"Yeah, but first we got to get out of Manhattan and that window's closing rapidly," Stephanie replied, swiping her Android back on. "Talk to me," Coop said over the phone from his NSA perch in the D.C. area.
"Exit out of Manhattan, fastest route that dodges GADEM," Stephanie said, bringing up a map of the Tri-State Area as Coop spoke. "From where you're at, fastest route is the Henry Hudson Parkway; you should be right next to it.."
"I see it," Stephanie said, bringing up the parkway as Coop continued. "Once you get on there, drive like hell north until you reach the Saw Mill Parkway just exiting the Bronx. You know the rest of the way; now go, you got GADEM agents crawling around the GW Bridge like rats in a maze. Be careful, Honor." As the phone connection cut, Stephanie leaned up in her seat and said to Laura, who was driving, "Hudson Parkway, lights and sirens. Step on it." Looking over at Joseph, she fixed the leather jacket around him and said quietly as they headed out, "We'll get you to safety, Joseph, I promise you that..."
